Purpose of this thread is for those of us going to walmart for a midnight release to share our experience and or meet up with others in the same area.

I'm getting X in 3 hours. Hopefully the store has the vidya stoner working back there and not the mentally retarded guy who has to call the manager for everything.

Does anyone know if the eShop includes tax? I would have enough to get both games if I got one through the eShop and one at Walmart. Otherwise I'd be roughly 5 dollars short of both versions.

They really can't sell it to you early. Same with K-Mart. Registers are locked and won't let them sell. You would need a manager to override the lock, and even then they price it at some stupidly high price. So instead of 39.99, they make it 399.99. And no manager is going to cost the store 300 dollars.

That depends on location. I've worked at 3 different stores, but 99% of the time new game releases stay in their shipped boxes behind the register from 11PM til the time of sale. And after the crowd dies down (if there is one), games go in the cases afterwards.

Okay, I'm calling some places to see if they're selling it at midnight, but the two I've called don't sound like they know what they're doing. I should know, because I worked at a Walmart for nearly three years.

Tell them to go get it for you. Game launches for the most part aren't a big deal there, so they just get it stocked along with everything else AKA when they get around to it. But the games ARE there.

So, I put in my preorder with Walmart last week after talking to a few different stores, and decided on Walmart since they were the only ones who multiple employees confirmed would sell the game to me at midnight, on release.

I call today, and get put on hold for 10 minutes, and talk to three different people during that hold, all of whom put me back on hold to get directed to electronics.

I hang up, call again, tell them I was on hold for 10 minutes waiting for electronics and asked if they could *please* get someone to answer the phone there, as they'd all said. Finally, I get electronics. I ask if I can pick up my Pokemon Y at midnight, on release, just to be extra sure before I drive out, and...

He tells me that 'no one will be here', and they're 'not doing a midnight release' and that I can come in at 7AM to get it.

It's a 24 hour Walmart. I've WORKED at Walmart before, and always gotten games at midnight on release. I was a cashier, and know for a fact that while nobody is assigned to electronics at night, there IS a cashier or someone who tends to the general area, electronics included.

Do I go anyways and just ask for a manager, or accept defeat and go in the morning like I would have if I'd preordered anywhere else?

Actually had a pleasant experience tonight at Wally World. Walked in at 11:45, asked the dude at the register in Electronics about it, said he'd look for it. While he was looking, found out we share an interest in woodworking. Two other guys showed up to buy the game, one of which was a long-lost Pokemon bro from elementary school. We all exchanged friend codes (and also exchanged codes with a stock boy there as well.)

10/10 would contract big box fleas again.
