You usually get Event Pokemon through a menu on the game's menu screen when you're selecting your file (you'll need to connect to Nintendo WFC of course).

Unless, that is, X/Y changed it in some way from how it usually was.

You need to be playing the game, yes. The event goes on for the rest of the day and I don't believe this is the type of event where you need to be INSIDE of GameStop in order to do it. You should be able to get it from home as well.

Yeah I think this is the case. Nintendo really needs to come up with a way to secure eShop accounts. I really don't get why there's no way to sync a 3DS eShop to a Wii U's.

Your eShop account allows you to redownload games you've already payed for once for free. If something happens to your 3DS and you still have the SD card, it won't mean much because while you'll still have the save data of those games, you'll still have to rebuy all of them on a new 3DS.

Yes, you would be able to do so. Even if the SD card doesn't work on the new 3DS,you can transfer the data to another SD card through your PC or Mac (see Nintendo's website on how to do that if you aren't sure).
