Super training thread

I figured I'd start a thread on super training since I'm still confused, and a few others seem to be as well. Here's some questions I have.

Is it even possible to go over 252 evs in a specific stat?

It took me around 1 hour to complete the ev training of my Torchic, is there anyway to make things faster? I have a 3 stages unlocked.

No, the game stops it there

Take a pokemon that can destroy the training and stock pile all the large bags that you can for the pokemon you are training. I've found that to be faster then trying to do actual training.

Right away. Like as soon as yoh get your starter.

Yea just get a reset bag and boom all of your evs are back to 0. Its all very simple once you got the hang of it

Yes, with the reset bag. Hit the bag in the Core Training and you will get random bags.

Finally, how do you get harder training? I want to powerlevel my Kirlia because it's Modest and pretty damn strong as is, but I'd like it to be better.

I get one about every 20 bags or so. You unlock harder training by completing all of the challanges. Just use a throw away Pokemon for it.

Level 3 is the highest for stat gain, but there is a secret training when you max out your EVs on a pokemon.

Also try to get the double up bags, they double the stats you gain (one time use only). For example... If you're playing a stage 3 attack level, instead of earning 12 evs, you'll earn 24 instead.

Also is it true that your IVs are maxed out in wifi battles? Also does the same apply for locals battles?

I don't know his stats, but if you mean sweep a team by saying "rape". EV train either his attack or special attack to the max, then his speed. Then put 4 in his health.

Is there some sort of requirement to find reset bags? I've been hitting the standard bag for 30 minutes and only found some random ev bags and double up bags. I've completed all the secret super challenges to.

Physical sweeper: Attack + Speed
Special sweeper: Special Attack + Speed

For defensive types, it's more tricky, as you tend to balance HP, defence and special defence.

How to decide what sort of role you want your pokemon to play? You look at the base stats and see what role it fits without EVs, then you use EVs to enhance it.

I've wrapped my head around Super Training by now, but one thing I've been wondering is that when people talk about EV training they make it sound like the smallest mistake can "ruin" the entire thing... Is the game really set up so that one specific way of training a certain Pokemon's EVs will be the end-all-be-all build?
Or can people experiment with different builds and still have fun Pokemon fighting other people who take EV training and stuff seriously?

I'm extremely new to the meta and due to how many of my friends are playing these games I'd like to get into EV training and the like, but if different builds and improvisation aren't viable it'll be really boring. Especially when it comes to popular Pokemon that a lot of people use.

Heres a tip: Have a Reset Bag on hand if you want to check if your EV's are good. When you use it it should say something like -252 -252 -6 when it's used. Just be sure to save before you do it.

Question too: Do natures still matter?

A small mistake (e.g. battling fucking anything) can ruin the minmaxing process, in that you'll end up with a point or two less in that stat. Five points of attack might not matter too much, as there's variance built into the damage algorithm already, but speed can definitely make or break a match.

Different builds are all very well, but most builds will still involve minmaxing. They won't -suck- if you make a mistake or two, but you'll have to live with the OCD of knowing it's not as good as it could be. (Except for speed, where you just get raped.)

252/252/4 spreads are the most common, they allow you to deal the most damage with the greatest amount of speed, but you can adjust this to suit personal preference. Do you want x to be able to survive y, even if it means less damage is dealt by x? Then whack some EVs into HP. Spreads are as interesting or generic as you like.
If you're interested in different spreads, I think the funnest part of the meta is Trick Room teams, because of how speed-oriented battling is. Grab some slow things, give them mixed EV spreads (because you don't use speed you can allocate more to the defences and HP), and have some serious fun.

What about a Mixed Wall Sweeper?
I've EV-trained my Chesnaught's ATK and Sp. DEF to maximum. Now both of his defenses are at an equal level and it hits hard.

Save up L type bags that you get while training other Pokemon so they start out with good performance ratings and can complete the games faster.

A bit of luck in getting these bags while training helps, too.

I just tried super training with a Pikachu.
They KEEP FIRING all the time like a machine gun, you can't charge up at all.
makes everything takes 10 times longer

Many EV distributions are based on calculations made much later in the game's lifespan, based on getting certain Pokemon in KO range 100% of the time, or being able to survive certain offensive threats. Those stats won't come out for a long time.

Right now, just do what you feel is best.

There's some pokemen where multiple builds are an option, but often you just want their most significant traits and work on those.

Example for multiple builds:
Azelf has 115 speed and 125atk/125 special attack.
Because of its amazing speed stat most builds will be centered around that and go for 252 speed.
That way you can be sure that you can outspeed every fucker that has 110 speed with max speed EVs and you can use that thing to outspeed knowing that you will attack first no matter what (lets exclude natures for this example).

Now because it has even special attack and attack stats you can now choose between going for 252 atk or 252 sp.atk and build your offensive movepool around it.
Special atk is more popular because it has access to better special moves, but a physical attacker can catch people off guard and its also strong.

There's also a very popular lead build that is rather defensive that utilizes support moves and shit like stealth rock.

So this is one fucker with multiple choices.

Then there's others like Blissey that just go for one static build (def, sp.def 252) because everything else is mostly useless.

I've done the training with a bunch of mons on a bunch of difficulties and never been hit. This is mostly owing to the fact that I just circle around the arena to the edge, rise up, and circle back, in a sort of W/M pattern, while firing.

I didn't even understand how to charge shot until like the 20th time doing the training, it never mattered, just tap tap tap and if you aren't gettin hit it it's a joke (when I finally figured out charge shots, I OHKO'd a balloon with Honedge, and laughed hysterically)

Also, am I correct in thinking that the balloons themselves are based on Pokemon which usually have those EV yields? E.G. HP1 is a mon that gives 1 HP EV, and SPE 2 is a mon that gives 2 speed EVs?

For instance I may want my pokemon to have exactly one more speed than the most a Jolly Garchomp can have, so I may go 192 Speed EVs and dump the rest into hp.

Basically, noobs will stick to 252/252/4 or copypasting smogon, but you will sometimes see variation with a very specific purpose.

Yo, I had a question trained my charizard up to the point were I unlocked some level 2 training but I can't use the level 2 training on any of my other pokemon. Does that mean it's unlocked for only that Charizard or every one from that line forever. I'm confused as to why I would have to start over from level 1 each time with each new pokemon when I can literally train them from 0-512 all within the Level 1 tree using bags and it's probably just as fast

What I recommend is using a pokemon you want to train to blast through all of the normal levels (1-3), gaining unwanted EVs in the process. Then, fill them up with more EVs somehow (510 is still the number you need), and you unlock the secret levels. Beat the secret levels with the pokemon, and then reset bag. Then just spam Level 3 training of what you want.

IV = Inherent value, a boost to stats pokemon are 'born' with whether they are caught wild or hatched from eggs. These range from 0 to 31 in each stat and express themselves as a pokemon grows, so a pokemon who is level 5 doesn't get a big benefit from having say, a 30 IV instead of a 20 IV, but the difference is noticeable at level 50.

EV = Effort Value, a boost to stats pokemon obtain from battling, using vitamins, using wings, and using super training.

It depends on the pokemon what type of shot they have. Some just shoot normally, some have fast shots, some shoot super slow balls with massive points, some shoot a constant stream of balls for very little points per ball

I don't think they have gen 6 pokemon yet but this is the best calculator. To use it you have to know exactly how many EVs you have in each stat. It doesn't work well on low level pokemon because even with a 31 IV, you have the same stat a pokemon would have with an IV of 25 at the same level, so it gives you an IV range of possibilities instead of a concrete number.

Super Training Guide:
With super training you can not go over 252 EV in any one stat.
There are two different kinds of attacks
Rapid Shot: Which shots a streem of soccer balls
Power Shot: Which does more damage(prefurered)

Super Training Lv.1- Gives +4 EVs
S. Att. - Magnetite - 300 points
HP - Walmir - 500 points
Att. - Axew - 300 points
S. Def. - Tentacool - 200
Speed - Noibat - 200
Defense - Geodude - 400

Super Training Lv.2: +8 EVs
S. Att - Magneton - 1500
HP - Relicanth - 2500
Att - Fraxure -1500
S. Def - Tentacruel - 1000
Speed - Aerodactyl - 1000
Def - Graveler - 1500

Super Training Lv. 3: +12 Ev
S. Att. - Magnezone - 2500
HP - Wailord - 4000
Att. - Haxorus - 2500
Sp. Att. - Dragalge - 2000
Speed - Noivern - 2000
Def. - Golem - 2500

After defeating one of these Balloons, within acceptable time. You get the EVs for doing it and a chance for a bag, There are 3 types of bag qualities, Bag S that give 1 EV, Bag M giving +4 EVs, and Bag L giving +12 EVs.

Other Bag:
Double Bag: Doubles the next training done.
Reset Bag: Resets EVs of Pokemon.

Would it be better to just use level 1 training for fast bags and only do level 3 when you have double points? I can beat most of the level 1 training in 15-30 seconds and it can take 1-2 minutes for level 3. That shit is pretty hard.

They add variation everywhere in the game except for wi-fi battles. Wi-fi matches should be determined by who has the better team, not who can spend the most amount of time mucking around with the rng to get perfect IVs.

Just feed it and pet it on its sweet spot(s) until its full and hearts stop appearing. Then play games for a bit, feed it the best puffs you got, pet it some more. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Also, for the last affection level, it has to do the "I just leveled my affection!" dance twice over. Meaning you pretty much have to level it twice for the last level.

That's better. The thing is that Scrafty is really slow, so a speed boosting nature would be a waste. Also, it makes Payback better. And works well in trick room.

Is it better to do a lot of lvl 1 training or should I try and get good at lvl 3 training? I haven't really noticed much of a difference in getting good bags, and lvl 3 is a lot more frustrating, especially for a lefty like me.

When it comes to EV training, what's the best route to do? Boost the stats that Pokemon would naturally have a higher percentage in or the ones that are lacking?

Like for example, Blastoise is a Def/SpDef kind of guy but his speed sucks.

Would it be worth EV training in Speed or should I focus on his Def/SpDef?

It's a turtle, it's supposed to be literally a tank.
If you boost his speed, he might end up being a Jack of all trades: does a lot of things but masters none.
Focus on the defense.

I've been doing a bunch lv2 training for sp atk. I got a decent timing down and if it wasn't for multitasking I would've finished really fast, including the bags you get for rewards

how can i tell if my pokemon has decent IVs? I don't just want to get a right nature Pokemon with terrible IV's. I want a Bold Squirtle, an Adamant Charizard or a Jolly/Quiet Venasaur.
