First off I'd like to mention that Gen 5 recently came out in 2011 while Gen 3 came out 2003. Pokemon's popularity has warned in 8 years so it's funny expecting a remake from a game made 2 years ago.
Next I'd like to say that the entire Hoenn region series including R/S/E sold a grand total of 22.26 million copies. All from vgchartz unless you have a better source.

More than Gen 3. Btw the B/W series is still selling as I just bought a copy with XY to transfer certain mons. Next I am sure you know Gen 4 sold way more copies than both these gens. Gen 5 managed to outsell gen 3 even 8 years after the hype died down.
Face it Gen 3 was the lowest point of the series and if you played that shitty game you would know why it almost killed the series.
