Regigigas in DP required the Regi trio and they weren't available then.

They only stay in battle when a weather is summoned (hail for articuno, drought for moltres, drizzle for zapdos), so you need pokemon with the abilities

We're not sure, it just sort of happened when he signed on. When he flew to the area, it didn't changes it's position either, so it might've been locked in there.

Well if Articuno's is Sea Spirit Cave then I doubt it's that easy since that's one of the first places most people went after beating the E4.

My friend says if you take exactly 10,000 steps, release all your pokemon, beat the elite four with only a Pidgey then reset your save file, you'll get to choose any one of the legendary birds as your starter
