Sorry to burst your bubble OP... but it stops being like that right after you beat the second gym. I wish it was still like that. I have 5 badges and badges 3 and 4 were almost right after each other and badge 5 only had a minor detour.

Yeah, I had 8 hours time clocked before my 2nd badge just wandering around looking for all the wilds. I still missed Honedge, Swirlix, and Binacle. It doesn't take as long to get the other badges. I got badges 3-5 in roughly the same timeframe as getting the first 2.

I spent 4 hours playing the super training minigames. I mean, it is pointless to do this with my possibly shit IV and neutral nature Pokemon, but I can't stop.

It also took me 30 minutes too decide my name and gender and 30 minutes to decide my nickname and starter, but those aren't counted due to soft resets.

That's one of my gripes about this game, it's way too easy. Even for a pokemon game it's easy, I'm not even trying to get ahead, I have to regularly switch out my pokemon with weaker ones to make matches fair.

Not using Exp Share actually makes the game pretty nice in terms of experience curve. Any pokemon that participates in battle gets full exp now instead of it splitting between all participants so going that route is viable.

I'm at 14 hours and I just got through the Zubat connecting cave. How much more before the second gym?

I spent a shit load of time EV training my team, and every route has so many old pokemon it feels like I'm playing on a randomizer.

Hell yeah. 10 hours or so in of almost straight play and I'm not at the second gym. I'm testing literally every new Pokemon I catch to see how good they are, which is eating up a lot of time, plus I play with each Pokemon in Pokemon Amie a little to see their reactions and stuff. I think in the last game it took me around 10 hours to get to the 7th gym. I only just beat the second gym after two days of being "gotta catch 'em all". And I'm still failing at that.

Got a hoarde battle with a group of Zangoose and one Seviper. The Zangoose ganged up on the Seviper and killed it right in front of me while I was trying to stop them.

Because we're exploring the region, staying in routes to catch Pokémon, evolving stuff I want for the dex or to use later on, I even went back to the day care before I had fly to test some stuff out.

I'm at the Day-Care now breeding different starter Pokemon and my entire team.
Also trading any desired pokemon to other peoples games once they restart in exchange for the different Mega Evolution stones from their saves that i can't obtain.

That gap between 1st and 2nd badge is the most fun I had with ingame Pokemon since forever.

At the same time im happy the later gyms come at much faster pace. I know I would be horribly pissed if 10 hour gaps happened 7 more times.
