Well, there we go, Mega Rhydon, Mega Electabuzz, Mega Magmar, Mega Dusclops and Mega Porygon2.

Admit it, those wouldn't be so mediocre if they had let their preevos brace the power creep, then give them an outright upgrade now, rather than some touches back then.

Rhyperior is a 50 BST increase, but only in terms of giving +10 to everything but Speed. Mega Rhydon would be a 100 BST increase, and it would had been ludicrous; see Mega Aggron. Plus, its existance left Rhyhorn without the chance of getting a Nidoran/Aron-like Preevo, which would had been a neat addition to the early game in, say, Diamond and Pearl.

Electivire and Magmortar are 45/50 BST increases, and the movepool expansions are VERY nice, but have some huge mistakes, design aside: turning Electabuzz from a special attacker into a physical one doesn't make much sense, the lack of an inmunity-inducing ability in Magmortar is jarring, specially when the pairing is being enforced, and the drop of speed in both cases kills them. Megas would had been a better choice.

Dusknoir is a respectable 70 BST increase. The problem is that 50 of those points go to Attack (not bad) and Speed (WHY?), leaving the gains in terms of walling negligible, and the increase of speed makes it worse in Trick Room environments. The increased attack is nice, but not enough to see it as a worthwhile retool. Banette not getting an evolution back then, but getting a Mega now, makes it stick out like a sore thumb.

As for Porygon-Z, it is a mere 20 BST increase, but worked out in a way that it loses 20 points in each defense, and gains 30 points in both SpAtk and Speed. If it was a Mega, it could keep its defenses and still have 40 points to spare, and thus maybe even break past 100 speed and manage to work as a sweeper as well.

So yeah, those could've waited 7 years and be better that what they were.
