I've played Pokemon for upwards of 2000 total hours across all gens, and have only seen one shiny Pokemon in Gold. It was a Lv3 Pikachu that I encountered when all my Pokemon were well above Lv50. It busted out of every ball I threw at it, so I had to kill it.

I think that cursed me.

I had a friend in elementary school who had a shiny crobat. Pissed me off because he hated crobat, didn't even want it and I fucking love crobat yet he refused to trade it to me no matter what I offered.

Later he stole my Yellow version and sold it to gamestop. I should have just taken the fucking crobat.

Ive posted my list a few times but its always worth it for how shitty my luck was.

First shiny was a wheezing in stark mountain in Diamond. It used self destruct before I could catch it.

Next was a shiny spearow when I was streaming a nuzlocke run. I couldnt catch it since it wasnt the first pokemon of the route and fainted it.

Third was a Durant in black version. Durant was my favorite gen 5 pokemin so I was super excited to catch it. Later my black version was stolen, losing all my pokemon from emerald, diamond, ss, and platinum.

Ive had some event shinies as well like Milotic. And a few legit and savd shinies from trades.

Shiny Linoone, Dustox, Makuhita, Sharpedo, and Sandslash. All from the same Ruby run, all within 20 hours of gameplay. Nothing before or since, not in 3000 hours and now six generations of playing. Something was just wrong with that particular save file.

In Gen IV the first shiny I found was a Graveler. You all know what happens next.

Then a Jolly Starly that was lost after I got my game stolen. After that I haven't found another shiny.

Shinies are hard to get. In my first ~1000 hours of playing Pokemon games I never found anything.

Then I found one in the first 30 hours of Soul Silver and one in the first 30 hours of White. So go figure.
