My dog died some time ago. They were fit and healthy and a bloodclot hit quick and suddenly. I sometimes keep thinking he will come out of the bedroom and greet me whenever I go visit my family

I've been away at college, so I'm scared when I go home I'll forget she died and ask where she is. Fall break's next weekend, so I know I'll be hit hard when I walk in and she's not barking at me.

I also remember the story my brother told me when our childhood dog died. It was winter and the ground was frozen solid. Possibly one of the worst winters in years. He told me about feeling his tears freeze across his cheeks as he dug a grave that afternoon.

all in all, my dogs lived long happy and healthy lives. Never had to put any of them down and they ran around playing until the last moments.
I still miss them, but Im at peace with it

Thanks Anon. I know I'll eventually be at peace with it, but at the same time, she was healthy and fine the last time I was home. Her kidney failure was so sudden that it's more of a shock than anything else.

I had a friend calling me on the phone. We joked about their old poodle and how old she was getting. How they would have to put her down and they would use the fluff to make pillows or she would explode like a Power Rangers Villain.
We laughed about it until someone was calling on the other line for my friend. They hung up to take the call.
They called back.
All they could say was "My father just called" before they burst into tears and couldnt speak anymore.

I felt terrible about it for weeks.
