Never bred before...how many steps total to hatch an egg? I've noticed that the general answer is "A lot longer than it takes for a couple to lay an egg."

What's a good set of starting stats so I can keep my eyes peeled?

I suggest getting a fletchinder it speeds up hatching. If you don't have a ditto check gts I found a jap one really quickly.

Egg steps vary between the pokemon. So if it's a new pokemon you're breeding, there is no answer. If it's an old one, look it up on Bulbapedia or Veekun.

However, you can make life easy by evolving your fletchling. The middle evolution has flame body, and that'll cut all egg steps in half.

Not to be a dick, but google really would've helped here, because the answer's relatively complex. There's no set number for an egg, it varies by pokemon.
