Hey /vp/, I was wondering if anyone had a list of Type combinations that were rare or haven't been used yet.

I'm working on a fandex and I want to use some more unorthodox ideas.

Also, if anyone would like to help me come up with a concept for a Bug/Ice type that'd be great. I want to include one but I'm kind of at a loss for ideas.

it's a project I've been working on alone for a number of years.

I posted a thread here a few weeks back helping me hash out ideas for a group of Pokemon that evolve in a similar manner to Remoraid and Mantyke after Honedge came along and killed one of my ideas.

pretty sure XY gave us all of those combinations, dude. Helioptile, Litleo, Diggersby, Tyrunt, Amaura, Honedge, Dragalge, Inkay, Phantump and Pumpkaboo, and Hawlucha have them covered

and Fairy has been paired with Psychic, Normal, Flying, Water, Grass, Steel. Rock and Electric, so I still have...

I literally just had an idea there.

Geyzard and Gilathermal, a gila monster Pokemon based on a geyser.

also, here's a look at what I'm putting into my fandex for people that are interested

- Starters based on a Hadrosaur/duckbilled dinosaur (Grass), cursed cats (Fire), and a platypus (Water)
- Fossil Pokemon based on prehistoric animals, a saber toothed cat and a wooly rhinoceros
- Grass/Fairy Pokemon as "Mew" legendary based on a corn dolly
- Gremlin/Imp Dark/Fairy Pokemon that exists as a counter to the above; Grass/Fairy is "nature", while Dark/Fairy is "technology"
- "Cryptid" legendary trio based on a chupacabra, a sasquatch, and a lake monster. Still figuring out types. You have to investigate and find them
- "Elemental serpents" legendary trio based on elemental spirits (Salamander, Undine, and Gnome) and and legendary serpents (Basilisk, Jormungandr, Hydrus); their trio master is a combination of the Sylph and Ouroboros, and together all four symbolize the alchemical cycle

Unfortunately my "mascot legendaries" have to go back to the drawing board because I was using a "extinction" and "rebirth" theme and that's a bit too close to what X/Y has going on with Xerneas and Yveltal.

hadrosaurs being "duck like" has pretty much fallen out of the public eye dude. It only serves as a colloquial term, and I doubted you all would have understood what I meant if I called them "Ornithopods"

but anyway, I wanted my starters to evoke the theme of my region, which is "mysterious lands and lost civilizations". A trio of starters based on a prehistoric creature, a mythological creature, and an animal from Australia that's generally considered to be bizarre seemed like it fit those criteria.

If you have a better suggestion for a dinosaur to base the Grass starter on, I'd love to hear it. Not trying to sound arrogant, I'm legitimately open to ideas.

have you seen a hadrosaur's actual face? Modern reconstructions don't make them look like ducks at all.

But I do see your point. Do you have any other ideas? I'm very committed to the idea of Grass being a dinosaur.

any ideas on how I can work in the ice theme? I'm thinking a two stage evolution here.

Maybe it can have a "pupa" form that's an ice cocoon. Not really something wetas apparently do, but creative license and all that.

Normal/Ice
- Based on a snowshoe hare, has a different appearance based on the time of year (brown and cream summer/spring, black and white fall/winter). Stats and typing never change. Looks more like a skier when it evolves, able to use its large feet as skis. Probably a fragile speedster type Pokemon, would learn an ice type variation on Blaze Kick.

Eyeglyph
Ghost/Rock
Based on an "udjat": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udjat
It appears in tombs and ruins pretending to be a symbol upon the wall.

already mentioned my Water/Fire gila monster + geyser pokemon

Psykinetic, Pskinari
Psychic/Electric
Based on Raijin/Kaminari. Two stage evolution line. Maybe take some influence from that electric-based boss from Mighty No. 9

Gonna work on thinking up more ideas. Kind of got an idea for a Dragon/Fighting Pokemon that's a homage to fighting game characters

Venusaur is just a basic reptile, Turtwig is a turtle, Treeko is a lizard, Snivy is a snake, and Chespin is a hedgehog.

Only Meganium is explictly based on a kind of dinosaur.

and again, it's part of my theme. Grass has to be a prehistoric animal, and I can't think of any prehistoric mammals that work as a three stage evolution line. There's only so many things you can do with a giant ground sloth.

I mean, Gen II's Pikachu clone was Marill and it was a water type. They don't necessarily have to be electric. Plus, it's less likely for Gamefreak to come along and use the idea themselves.

What's a good type though, I wonder? Psychic and Dark don't seem appropriate, so that's right out. Guess I need to think of a cute rodent they haven't used yet. Maybe a gerbil?

Torterra is clearly an ankylosaurus. Sceptile is a generic therapod. Most are dinosaurs.

Why not like an indricotherium? Too much like Maganium?

Torterra is more a turtle than an ankylosaurus. All it has is the head spikes, it doesn't even have a tail club or anything.

Indricotheres are honestly kind of boring. Not to mention I'm not really sure how I can incorporate the whole "plant growing out of it" thing that every other starter has going on. Plus, they're very rhino like, and like I said, one of my fossils is a wooly rhinoceros.

thinking on the stegosaurus

"Stegorn" (stegosaurus + thorn) - small, thick looking creature, plates haven't growin in yet, only "buds" on its back, has thorny looking bristles on the end of its tail

"Kentrine" (kentrosaurus + pine) - Larger, has hardened leaves groing out of its back as plates, woody looking tail ending in a mass of spiky needles

??? - Final form, leave plates are larger and more solid looking, more vicious-looking thorns on its tail, extra set of spikes on the upper rear legs

Not sure about the name "Kentrine". Kentrosaurus isn't exactly a household name.

not sure they feel like Pokemon names but I like the idea of combining them with pine trees.
