I'm trying the Masuda Method to try hatch a shiny Honedge but I'm kinda new so not too sure what I'm doing. Can any of you guys offer some tips on how to maximise the chances of getting a shiny and maximising time?

Find an Adamant Honedge of either gender, and give it an everstone. After that find a Honedge with another gender or a Ditto from a foreign language.(JPN, GER, ITA, FRA, KOR etc.)

One of the two being foreign increases shiny chance by 6x. By being Adamant, it will also be viable for battling, if you manage to get one.

Apparently shiny rates have increased but that's said every gen. I got a shiny Fennekin without the Mesuda Method within 20 eggs, but it all comes down to luck.

So what's the most time effective way of hatching eggs? Should I be gathering eggs in the box then taking them out in fives? Or should I Hatch whilst waiting to receive eggs and deposit Honedges when they hatch?

Resetting doesn't work as the ID(which includes gender, shininess and IVs) are generated with the egg. Resetting doesn't change what's inside them.

You can reset before the daycare man gives you the egg though. So you could do:

>put desired pokemon in daycare
>save
>run around untill you get 5 eggs
>hatch them all
>see if anything good has hatched
>if not, reset and start again

That's how i always did it in previous games

Hawlucha is not a bird, so probably Humanlike egg group.

Amaura is probably Monster egg group, as that's where the other non-dragon dinosaurs are.

Even if it doesn't the Ditto can still be a big help for Masuda Method if you give the everstone to the other parent which does have the desired nature.

Modest, Timid, Jolly and Adamant foreign Dittos are fantastic to have though, along with a few other natures. Neutral or Sp Def based natures are mostly useless, although Sp Def can be nice for a few tanks.

Egg appearance rates:

Same species, different ID numbers: 69%
Same species, same ID numbers: 49.5%
Different species, different ID numbers:49.5%
Different species, same ID numbers:19.8%

Every 255 steps you take there is a chance an egg will appear. Dittos count as same species and different ID numbers basically means you got it from another person.

Funny. I breeded a Togepi with another german fairy type, got nothing.
Try it with a japanese Ditto, get this in the first egg. It's in a Luxury Ball too (Modest nature).

Just skate across the route with the battle chateau and Pokemon breeder on it, the Pokemon will usual breed fast so you'll keep getting eggs while trying to hatch them. Keep something with Flame Body ability in your party and you'll hatch them pretty quickly. It's super easy if you do it while watching a movie or something.

wouldnt going for a ditto be more worth it in the long run though for other breeding purposes? Because Honedge is uncommon to run into and I dont know any pokemon with magnet pull that exist in Kalos.

Time for some math. Fucking probabilities.
Masuda method increases your chance of obtaining a shiny to 1/1365. Essentially this means you'll have a 50% chance of having hatched AT LEAST one after 945 eggs.

945 50%
1252 60%
1642 70%
2196 80%
3141 90%
6283 99%

Of course this doesn't mean any guarantee. Expecting it to happen on egg 6283 because 6282 were failures is the gambler's fallacy.

Yes. But taken as a whole you can extract more. If you do 1- P(not obtaining a shiny) you can work out the probability of obtaining at least one in a given number of attempts.

>foreign Honedge or Ditto
>put them both in thing
>have pokebag empty but ONE with flamebody (talonflame works) this hatches eggs twice as fast
>get eggs from dude standing outside, ride bike back and fourth
>once one hatches PC it
>keep refilling eggs

Okay, so say we're hatching five eggs. There's Only a few outcomes.
0 Shiny, 5 normal
1 Shiny, 4 normal
...
5 shiny, 0 normal

We calculate the odd of getting ZERO shiny.
(1364/1365)*(1364/1365)... OR (1364/1365)^n
where n = 5 in this case

We subtract this outcome from 100% and we get the remaining possibility of 1 shiny, 2 shiny, 3 etc. all added together

1- (1364/1365)^5 = 0.00365764055
