I think I got a bad copy of the game. There is no story in my booklet, it's just 3 pages. White had backstory and character bios but my booklet for Y doesn't.

The game has a digital release, why would you think that they would include story in the physical game if digital would have no access to it?

there's no booklet, just a really shitty help menu in the home page. It's annoying cause the game has plenty of new features that aren't even presented in the game itself. Pokemon amie and super training comes to mind, as well as the oaura.

Im actually a little happy that they dont tell me jack when I play the game.
I have to learn everything solo and use the community to get things I cant figure out.

Kids might miss out however since some are stupid. But I doubt that will ruin their enjoyment of the game.

Most 3DS (and I think Wii U) games come with minimal documentation. There's an on-cart manual you can get from the Home menu.
