I'm not too sure on the specifics, but I know amie will give your pokemon little boosts whether its crit rate, attack, exp gained, etc. I found a Solrock in the Glowing Cave early on in the game (forget where exactly). You can't transfer pokemon from previous games until like December iirc.

I believe that if you max out a Pokemon's affection, it has a 10% chance to dodge enemy attacks regardless of their accuracy, a chance to relieve itself of any status ailment or relieve itself more quickly (Paralysis, Poison, Burn, Confusion, Sleep). It also has a higher chance of getting Crits and has a SLIGHT chance to survive getting KOed.

Max it out and your pokemon will get bonuses such as boosted exp, critical hits, random endures, and may shake off paralysis, poison and burns.
