There's a metaphor hidden in the plot of XY.

Lysandre and Team Flare meanwhile, represent the blinded old "fans" who refuse to give the series a chance anymore, believing it's too far "lost", and just want it to die out now so their memories of the series and their "ideal" for it can't be tarnished any longer.
