So, I don't have any form of 3ds yet, but seeing all this X and Y crap has gotten me in a buying mood. Which system should I get?
Nintendo's refurbished systems run $110 3DS, $170 3DSxL, or a new 2DS for $130.

Is the xL's extra size worth it? Is the 2DS just babby's first handheld, or a good idea since X and Y don't use much 3D?

I just bought a 2DS yesterday. My gf has the 3DS XL. If you feel like you'll be home a lot, not moving around, and will mostly be resting it on your lap or w/e, the 3DS XL is better because the screens are freaking huge. The 2DS and original 3DS have the same size screen. The 2DS is much more compact and balanced, it's more like holding a game controller than a portable system. I prefer it to the 3DS XL because it's so much easier to hold and easier to play on the go.

I love the 3ds xl, but I got the pika XL when it was on sale at Target. I'd either go XL or 2ds, I wouldn't get the regular 3ds just from what I've seen/felt using it.

I was in this situation OP and no one offered me any help so I will help you out of the goodness of my heart.

I thought about getting a 2DS because of the price, but then I realised the screens will get FUCKED because you can't close it. Also it looks clunky and awkward as fuck.

I thought then about 3DS because it's cheaper and looked for second-hand, but then I realised I don't want some second-hand console some guy probably rubbed his balls all over. So I looked for a new one.

In the end I decided to get an XL because the blue colour matches my glasses and airsoft gun and I like it ;-; why the fuck not?

I took it home and dug out my old DS; the original first grey model. You know the one.

Compared them size by size and JESUS FUCK me is the screen tiny on the DS! So I'm really glad I got the 3DS XL.

Keep in mind I'll never take my console outside, though, so if you want a smaller one for transportation that might be better, but the big screen is sooo much sexier.

Bro, if you have deep pockets (monetarily and literally) get the XL. The bigger screen makes for an awesome gaming experience. But that thing does not fit well in most pockets. If you live somewhere cold and have to wear a jacket its probably not a big deal. Likewise if you carry a bag of some sort. I currently have the regular size. I'm planning to upgrade if they release a 3ds with 2 joysticks

It really isn't clunky as fuck. If anything the 3DS XL is the clunkiest system Nintendo has churned out since the original Nintendo DS brick.
As for the screens getting scratched, they sell a cheap 10 dollar plush case for it, might as well chip in the few extra dollars since you're getting it for so much cheaper than the XL (75 bucks cheaper)

It is the comfortable and it is glorious to hold. It is cheap and a great buy.

Your smartphone doesn't have a screen protector and it does fine. Treat your 2DS with care and it's a great buy.

if it bothers you so much, buy a comfy case down the line. Still cheaper than a normal 3ds.

I highly suggest getting the 3DS XL. I have the regular and the XL and with the 3D especially looks better on the XL. Any 2D games on the regular because its lighter and its my favorite color

Conflicting ideas of clunkiness I see. I guess I'll have to go manhandle the display models for a while. But the consensus does seem to be that the larger screens are worth the cash.
