The city is broken into sections. Start at one end, enter every building, do whatever you can and talk to everyone.

I actually really like it. It was terrible for a while, but now that I'm aware of the general layout It's quite fun to skate around in.

Big cities were great not in 3D when it was easy to find your way around. The issue with this city is that every building looks the same. Every other building is just a fucking cafe. It's tedious to go into all these buildings tiringly talking to each npc individually in the hopes they'll give you something.

It's truly a boring circular city.
Even gen Vs shitty 3d city was better

The only problems with Lumiose:
- Not allowing free-form analog stick running like they do with the skates and bike, but that's solved by just skating everywhere,
- Having four maps for the streets, plus one per alleyway, instead of just one map for the entire city. This is partially solved by just using the inner city map (between the outer ring and the tower area) to get from one place in the city to another, but it's still dumb.
- Save glitch, which will probably be patched out and is solved by not saving in the streets.

So yeah, my only real complaint is the map switching, since the other two problems are easily solved and one will hopefully get patched soon.

What's the purpose of any other random building? Some people give advice, some people give items, some people just say random shit. It adds flavor.

Fucker I can find anything in my city through landmarks and general memory of street layouts

It's pretty difficult to do this in the city were everything looks the same, the only landmarks they have the the color statues which is fucking stupid, maybe if the street floor was colored it would be easier

Castelia was terribly obtuse with long pathways for no reason other than having them,
And the paris-clone has the worst camera I've ever encountered in any game.

Coming from someone who lives in a large city, no, because my city is mostly on a grid numbered/directional layout. Like any practical large city. Maybe gf should look into that next time.

Are you as confident of your ability to locate things in a brand new city that you've never been to before? Keep in mind in the game you're described as having just moved to Kalos. So you get to Lumiose for the first time and don't know where to go. So you can do everything else that you would do if you go into a large city for the first time: ask for directions, read signs, find a map. This isn't difficult.
