Yeah, I realized it was a bit of a problem by the 4th gym and turned it off.

Now I've got to hope that the enemies catch up with my mid 40's guys.

switching in pokemon gives each pokemon 100% exp yield

unless that was implemented in gen iv, i don't remember it being like that in r/s/e

Seriously, it's way too easy to become over-levelled in this game.

Takes away the challenge.

It's pretty insane but I love it.

Who ever liked grinding? Seriously. Pokemon was never hard if you're above a certain age and will be hard regardless if you're young. This just makes all the fun stuff (breeding, trading, filling up the dex) a lot less grindy.

I loved the exp share, it meant that I didn't have to stick to a party of 6 all the way through. In the previous ones I had to grind up a poke that I liked to add it, now I can ev train one and then exp share so it's usable faster.

I swap pokes a lot.

There would be challenge if Nintendo would actually put some effort in the NPC trainers' teams and their A.I.

The GC games proved that they can do competent AI.

Add in a traded pokemon xp boost and xp boost O-power and it's pretty insane. I think my record so far is around 9k xp from a single pokemon, and this was at level 40 or so.

Probably can't do very competent AI on a handheld though.

AI takes up more processing power than most people give it credit for.

Why not use share exp to mix up your team? Then you don't have to use the same pokemon throughout the majority of the game. By the end you'll have a diverse pool of high level pokemon

I only keep a high level Absol with False Swipe so I can catch 'em all quickly

There's a lot of things they could do to make the game at least somewhat challenging though, even without touching the AI. Give the gym leaders some more pokemon to begin with, I miss proper 6v6 battles or give them some actually good pokemon to use. At least the first five gyms have pretty pathetic lineups, especially compared to the fact that there's pseudo-legendary dragons etc. available at the very start of the game.

The battle frontier's and PWT's prove that wrong in a way.

Challenge mode in B2/W2 increased levels, added pokemon to special trainers, increased AI, and gave held items to certain opponent's pokemon.

I think GF can do it, they just chose not to.

They should though. Inexperienced players can play on lower difficulties and the more experienced can play the harder difficulties.

I took it off somewhere around the 3rd gym and the enemies did catch up to me. By the 8th gym I was underleveled by ~5, but victory road brought me up to like 62 with no grinding at all which made the Elite 4 even easier than it should have been.
