Klefki isn't actually the keys. It's a little fairy who has long arms that it loops around into a ring shape and keeps keys safe for people.

On one hand I think it's a fairly lazy design that reeks of someone playing around with their car keys at a design meeting. On the other the fact that it's a small ring that goes around collecting keys 'The Borrowers' style is very fairy-like, fits in extremely well with established fairy folk lore and is probabably thematically more solid than any other fairy in the game.

Uh yeah they did. Vanillite is a fucking lazy ass design and I don't think anyone in the world actually used one unironically. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was a stand alone, but there were 3 fucking stages and each one just added a new face.

The idea behind the design is a very clever one and if it had been executed properly it would have been a great Pokemon, however it is ruined by this lazy design. Gamefreak really should spend more time considering how they can improve before they go ahead and approve of designs like this.

The only thing I find wrong with Klefki are the real keys hanging from its ring.

Which after realizing they aren't physically part of it but rather keys they took from other people, I stopped having a problem with it.

Now I just wish all the keys matched because of my autism

Don't forget that Steel/Fairy is a fantastic defensive combination.

It only has two weaknesses, Ground and Fire.

Too bad both pokemon with this combination have really low HP stats.

The keys are stolen from humans. It's just a cool magical floating metal thing that happens to steal keys because they fit on it. The keys are slapped on all its art to be interesting. If a new one was born it wouldn't have the keys. They acquire the keys.

At first I didn't like it because it look like it was a possessed key/ key ring.

Then I saw it faint and realized it was just a pokemon that look like a key and was holding keys its little arms.

Afterwards I was ok with the design.

The problem isn't that it looks like an object. Voltorb and Electrode look good from a design perspective, and they matched the art style of the games they came from.

Klefki... Well it just looks like shit compared to Honedge, and even Trubbish.
