What's the longest it's taken you to get a shiny?

I've seen a LOT of people on /vp/ over the past few days claiming to get their shinies really early, like between the 30-70 eggs. I wonder if they are really credible or if they're just saying that to piss people off.

Does anyone know if hordes actually increase the chance (because you're actually facing 5 pokemon) or does it only run a check once?

It will take less time if you keep using honey or something to attract hordes of them but it doesn't increase your chances. (It's not 5/8192 it's 1/8192 five times)

Literally the only shiny I've ever caught was the red Gyarados in GSC. Aside from that I've only seen two in the wild, a shiny houndour and tentacruel in Platinum; both of which I didn't catch since I either didn't have enough pokeballs, or I accidentally killed it.

Depends. With breeding you have a bit more control with the nature. You can always use a Pokemon with Synchronize, but it's still a 50% chance. I really like with gen VI that the Pokeball is passed down from the mother now. This was one of my biggest gripes with breeding because I love to have my entire team in matching balls. It's autistic as fuck.

I got a shiny ralts within my first 20 eggs. But since I was an idiot, I didn't breed with an everstone and it ended up with a gentle nature.

Rebreeding now, and still no shiny after another 4 boxes.

I am turning 21 soon.

I have played Pokémon since Red and Blue launched in Europe and played every game on handheld to death. Every version, every gen.

I have never encountered a shiny Pokémon in the wild.

In general I've caught 4 that I remember.

First shiny was a Zubat in Mt. Moon in (Silver - 2001).
Second was a Tentacool in Route 107 (Sapphire - 2003).
Third was a Fearow in Kindle Road (FireRed - 2005)
Fourth was a Swellow in Route 13 (White - 2013)

Oh, and I caught a shiny Ferroseed (first one I saw) in Y now before the launch day on the 11th.

Shit nature though, Careful and capable of taking hits. Oh well I don't do much competitive battling so it doesn't really matter.

People doing the Matsuda method or whatever it is, surely this must ruin the experience of getting that one shiny you randomly encounter. I am sure if you are whoring your way to a shiny, then you will lose a certain amount of joy of gaining one.

Longest search I have done was for over 4 weeks, soft reseting for a shiny Charmander on FireRed, and never got it.
Then I filled about 10,11 boxes with zoruas, never got one either.

But yesterday started trying to get either a shiny pikachu or pacharisu on one of my friend safaris, started at 11am, trying on and off all day.
About 1am, I said to myself I am not going to bed until a shiny appears.
2 minutes later, a female Shiny Pacharisu shows her adorable face :)
Called her Pinky, caught a normal male and called him Blue to keep her company.
