Hey /vp/...I just went through a hassle to find this 5th addition to my team.

It's got a brave nature, so -speed +attack. I hear he's physical, despite what the obvious first impressions are...so is he naturally supposed to be fast? Is he a sweeper? Should I breed for adamant? Or will this brave nature be fine?

Any advice from a trainer of this thing is greatly appreciated :)

What's most important is that it has Contrary.

You can go two ways - outspeed them to get a guaranteed sleep before they can move.

Or focus on raw power and use a focus sash etc. to ensure you survive the first hit, so you land the sleep and are even more powerful.

Get an Adamant one and give it a Scarf. You just have to spam Super Power and each turn you'll be stronger. Here's the build I've been using in showdown:

Malamar@Choice Scarf
Adamant nature 252Atk 252Spe 252SpD
-Super Power.
-Night Slash.
-Trick/Switcheroo
-Whatever you want.

Switch out from fairies and ghosts (you can stary Superpowering against Flying types, trust me) and need a Heal Bell & Wish support so it can sweep more and more.

he's pretty slow to begin with, but i don't think he has the defense (ignoring superpower buffs) to be able to run a brave set
if it's just for a playthrough, natures mean shit all especially with how easy this gen is
otherwise i'd say breed for adamant

BTW, if you really want to use that Brave... you could use it on a VGC Trick Room team.

But this trick room team idea has me thinking now...I haven't run a trick room team yet, and I kinda wanted to...I mean I know there are better options for it...but if he's got heavy sleep strategies, then trick room, plus sleeping, seems kinda fun...

Guy's a fucking monster.

Investing in physical attack is a must but I dunno whether defense of special defense is better to EV train because I don't really know his base stats. Either way, Contrary Superpower with sleep is wreckage.

Ahaha if only hypnosis had better accuracy. That's a big gamble. This thing will be mostly trash. While he doesn't have many weaknesses, he doesn't resist much either and he's super frail. Even with superpower giving him defense he still slow as shit.

Ingame he's fine but I wouldn't worry about breeding him correctly.

Psycho Cut

Good coverage, hits both stabs and you have super power for contrary. If there's a better stab move I'm not aware he learns substitute that in.
