How important are IVs?

I'm new to this whole EV IV thing.

Are they super important? Do I need the maximum amount for a decent Pokémon?

It's pretty easy to breed a Pokemon with 3x 31 IVs (31 is the max).

Just go read an IV and a breeding guide, they can explain it better.

IVs will up a stat to a max of 31, it's something most can deal with. Speed IVs are the only real necessity and it's only really used by sweepers
