I like the Dragon-type, and always have. I DID NOT, however, like Garchomp, because I saw it as a sign of things to come. It said to me "take one long look at me, for I am why Dragons can't have nice things." Sure enough, it turned out to be broken as hell. Salamence (one I actually did like) got kicked upstairs for being ridonkulous, too, but it was cool, I still had Dragonite and Flygon, after all.
Gen V, my currently favorite Dragon appeared: Hydreigon! He had actual weaknesses! He had a neat design! His shiny coloration was my favorite color! But then I remembered Garchomp, and how silly Outrage had become.
Dragons had gotten out of control. GameFreak could have simply buffed other Types to help out. Hey, what about Ice, the archetypal dragonslayer? Give that a Dragon resistance, maybe Water too, and we can get the party started. Maybe drop Steel's resistance to it, too, since they resist enough shit as it is.
We got Fairy. I do not have an issue with Fairy IN CONCEPT, as there's a huge range of mythologies to draw from. But no, we get some of the most obnoxiously pink, "cute" things ever designed. Most of the Gen 6 fairies practically define "trying too hard." Then there's the typing itself: super effective vs Dragon and immune to it? Hey, like I said, I'm PERFECTLY FINE WITH THAT!
Then they gave it resistances to Bug, Dark, and Fighting. And made it super effective against Dark and Fighting. And gave it two practically irrelevant weaknesses (Scizor's ridiculousness being why Steel isn't completely moot). And made it resisted only by Steel, Poison, and Fire. Seriously, Fairy typing is Gen 1 Psychic all over again. It's overpowered as hell - the only thing keeping it in check is that most of the fairies are terrible.
Oh, and GameFreak made Ghost eerily similar to how Dragon was in terms of resistances and whatnot. How long until we get a Ghost-type Outrage?
