I ran into a shiny and caught it, then my game crashed before I could save.

When I was trying to connect to the internet (I forgot it doesn't save first in this game) the game stopped, a stripe appeared on the top screen, then it exited out of the game saying "there has been a problem"

It didn't, I guess, because when I reloaded I was at the last point I saved. Or maybe it crashed before it did.

I was just trying to connect from the PSS screen, not do any trading or anything

The only bug I hit was the Lumiose City save bug on the first day. Granted, it's a huge bug that would have ruined the series if it had been in Gen 1-3 before handhelds had internet connectivity and could patch software, but it hardly makes the game as a whole worth considering "buggy".

I bought digital on release night with absolutely no problems. I didn't even have the save glitch.

You did see the fix on that, didn't you?

Supposedly if you repeatedly mash the "Home" button it'll kick the game back giving you enough time to save somewhere else.

Convenience. It was raining when I finally got ready to get the game, so I just said "fuck it" and went digital. I can always get Z/ZX/ZY/XX/XY physically.

In OP's defense, game crashes are rare, but they do happen.

I remember when HG/SS came out, I had saved right before battling Claire. Flash forward to the battle with Lugia, and the damn game freezes during its 3D animation appearance.

I wouldn't call it a bug though. Just some really shitty luck.

It's not a matter of if you'll get fucked with the digital version, its when. There are far too many faulty digital versions. Its completely reasonable to assume that, when something like OP's problem happens, it was the digital version.
