Also idk, good matching, actually trained all my pokemon instead of one op one and the rest crap so I had a fighting chance in case that one gets knocked out due to some bs critical.
But take it at your own pace man, I bought the game to enjoy it, beat the gyms, elite four, then complete the pokedex.

I got it the day it released from Best Buy. Beat League mid-Tuesday (California) but actually feel like I was slow because of all the content to enjoy.

There were people at my school who beat it on/befpre Monday I think.

Exp Share kind of made it easier to grind through though.

Seriously, I got it day of release (there was no midnight release here and I worked 7a to 7p release day)
and because of work/ wife/ kid/ closing on our house in 1 week, I just passed the fairy gym. I'm wrecking ass, no doubt, and I did a bit of breeding but still, this is probably going to be the "longest" pokemon game for me since I have real life responsibilities now. One of my friends (a girl, no less!) had already beaten the game and had all her mons at lv 70+ two days ago.

For those of us who don't care about online battling, the game is pretty much over once you beat the Elite 4. It's not like Emerald, Platinum or BW2 that actually had a good amount of post-E4 content to play around with.

it just depends how much shit you do
i only perfected one pokemon in amie
i barely super trained
i only did one video (granted it took like 2 hours)
and the only side stuff i really did was playing dress up

Battle Maison, Safari Zone, Battle Institute, Looker's sidequests, mega stones, berry stuff and countless daily events including Hotel Richissime, Inverse battles and rival battles. This isn't even counting the Pokedex you can fill up or Pokemon Amie and Super Training.

I have a friend at work who always made fun of me for playing Pokemon. Always with the "Why dont you buy a Playstation or upgrade your PC instead of playing these shit kiddie games?"
Weeks ago, I even mention my excitement for Pokemon X/Y and he just rolled his eyes telling me to play MMO's instead.
Last week he bought the game. Told me it was worth looking into. We looked at eachothers starters. He picked everything Im weak against by coincidence. Told me next week to prepare for a battle.

I think I could have finished it within 25 hours, without grinding or anything like that. I had to stop at the 8th gym for about 10 hours (20-30) because I thought I was going through the game too quickly and spent that 10 training a shitty Hawlucha, Honedge and a few other newgens.

It has nothing to do with online battle content. It's focused entirely on single-player battling, which is the crux of the gameplay.

Super EV train my main team, explore the whole Lumiose city, find all the available TMs, get all the clothes, breed and find all the berries mutations.

Using this method it took me around 2 hours to get Charmanders with 5 perfect IVs. Getting the egg moves ready took me longer than the IVs did.

Beat the elite 4 last night.

It's much easier this time around to stomp through gym leaders since it's easier to keep a leveled balanced team.

At first I was driven by my desire to unlock all the clothing shops, then I wanted to beat the elite 4 for friend safari to be unlocked as well as all the post-game perks.

Just don't get too wrapped up in the other features of the game and tell yourself that you can dabble with it easier in post-game.

I even had my lead 3 pokemon maxed in affection, started a brief staryu breeding program for shinies, as well as getting my japanese ditto pretty quickly.

This game is much faster when you get used to it.
