Two of my favorite gym leaders from Gen 1, and they'd probably be some pretty great tutors. Their personalities differ quite a bit, so it'd be an interesting interaction.

Again, some of my favorites. Morty would obviously be the more calm, and expository one. Whitney's more hyperactive, and would provide a pretty good contrast to Morty, as well as keep morale high.
Also, they have opposite typings, so that'd be pretty cool too.
>HoennFlannery and Steven
Flannery would be pretty fun to be around, I'd imagine, and Steven's... well, Steven. He shows up a lot in his respective game, and is known for traveling around. It'd provide a decent shock to find out he was the previous champ upon reaching the E4.
>SinnohGardena and Volkner
Gardena would probably be pretty fun to be around as well, and I could imagine the first encounter with a ghost being rather entertaining. Volkner is just plain out cool, and clearly is looking for something to liven up his life. His skills with tech, and his personality in general would be a pretty nice addition to the team.

Childhood friends, and both pretty great characters. Elesa being one of my favorite Gym leaders in the entire series, this was a given.
