So, what is the general consensus of this incredible badass right here? Is he as awesome as he looks? Not too slow? Strong moves? Rock/Dragon a good type combo? Strong Jaw a good Ability (what does it do, anyway?)?

Asking because I don't have the games yet and really want to use him.

00000000000000000000He's really strong and has fantasic physical bulk. His speed is low but he learns DD. Apparently his DW ability is rock head, if this is true then he may be the greatest wall smasher outside of mega evos and ubers, as he gets a stab for head smash. Strong jaw is pretty good as well, gives him a stab for bite moves, and he gets them all as egg moves. He's a great poke.

The only thing I'm not happy with is currently, the angry dragon t-rex known for its temper CAN'T learn outrage. Wtf. There must be some way of breeding it in

I know Strong Jaw works on Crunch and Bite, but are you sure about Fire/Ice/Thunder/Poison Fang? I have Thunder and Ice Fang on mine and right now it seems like Crunch does way more damage to neutral monsters than Thunder/Ice on neutral mosnters. I dont think 15 base BP should make THAT much of a difference.

I like him; he's been on my team the whole game. Kicks serious ass, but really wish he'd learn a decent rock move. Mine's at Level 66 and he's only learned one rock move the entire time, and that was Ancientpower, which is good but only 5 PP; and I already replaced that with Earthquake.

It boosts all biting moves by 50% so he basically gets a stab when using any bite move, fitting for a t-rex. I think there may be some way of putting it on him now. For example, Salamence learns outrage but he CAN'T breed it onto a garchomp, whereas a drudigon can.

I'm pretty sure he can get Rock Slide from TMs, not sure though. Been having too much fun with DD/EQ/Crunch/Dragon Claw

He learns head smash, the strongest rock move in the game, he can also apparently learn stone edge from TM. And he os supposed to get rock head as his DW ability, giving him best use of his head smash stab, that is a 225 base power move he is throwing out there without any drawback.

Pretty much writes itself imo. Do adamant of Rock Polish, Jolly if Dragon Dance. Dragon Claw for a second stab, but consider Crunch if you run into a lot of ghosts with levitate or such.

Not OU, but definitely has potential if played right.

I much prefer strong jaw over rock head as an ability on him, though; essentially get STAB on every elemental fang and crunch? yes please. the fangs have low BP but with strong jaw you essentially get 97BP moves with crazy coverage, and he has the attack stat to abuse them. Compare that to Rock Head and it's a no contest over which ability is more threatening. 50% extra power, goddammit. Even iron fist only boosts by 20%.

Dragon dance is always fun if you can get 2 off, but I'm not optimistic given his typing and special defense, so I'm thinking that a scarf set would be good, especially since you get an extra move slot to pack one extra coverage move.

I don't like relying on Head Smash for the reason that it has a 80% hit rate, compared to the 95% hit rate of the fangs. Fangs also get status effects, poison fang actually causing bad poisoning so 30% free chance to toxic.

I don't think Tyrantrum can sweep more than 2 pokemon anyway, unless your opponent is retarded and lets you set up 3-4 DDs. So Head Smash doing recoil is just fine with me.

Scarf with crunch / 3 fangs would probably be the best, combined with 252 Attack / speed. However, his beefy defence stat could be useful for a situational life orb / dragon dance build.

There's more to coverage than just scoring SE attacks. Head Smash and EQ cover just about everything while having higher and in head smash's case MUCH higher base power. And still leaves you room to run Crunch or Dragon Claw for more SE hits or an extra stab.

The bites are pretty clearly the inferior option here as cool as it would be. Honestly I'll probably run Crunch on mine if for no other reason than the flavor.

With 119 base dfeense (higher than hippowdon) and 80 ish base HP, I can safely assume he would survive a bullet punch from any scizor not running choice scarf. And with a bit of defense investment I'd say he could even live one of those.

Someone ran a calc, he can survive (with 3% hp) ONE bullet punch, barring choice band. Of course this is based on early base stat calculations so not entirely accurate, but it's in that range. I wouldn't really count that as surviving. And if Head Smash is your counter offer, 20% of the time you'll miss and die. That's a risk I'm not willing to take.

He realistically has the bulk to withstand one priority attack. Except probably Scizor or Lucarios Bullet Punch. He's a late game sweeper if anything at all. Most definitely not an early game set up sweeper or wall breaker. Once you have dealt with any priority users he should be pretty safe to use.

Because he doesn't have the ability to stay in. His typing is terrible, especially considering the nerf to dragon types overall. You're weak to 3/5 of priority moves, and you'll probably die for free to a special attacker with surf.

"Staying in" is something you can only do in late game, when all the enemy checks are dead. Early game is all shuffling about and firing off strange attacks in predictions, which I think he does well considering his already impressive attack stat, and diverse move pool.

All the priority mioves he is weak against are physical, he has 119 physical defense and good HP, he can survive them at least once even without defense investment and he can sure as hell 1 hit ko them in retaliation. He also has DD is some dumbass tries to wall him, good luck walling a stabbed DDing headsmasher.

I don't think he will do anything at all until late game. So many pokemon can run that scarf + coverages set better than him. Dragonite with the elemental punches for one. Hell Dragonite can even do that set as mixed so he can't be walled by just a physical or special defense pokemon.

It's hard to know who'll get superpower, given that there's no move tutor for it in the game now. Transfer might even block pokemon that got taught it in B/W (same way B/W blocked pokemon that were taught certain moves via TM in D/P / HG/SS)

Any number of reasons why you would want to run Rock Polish on him. If you have an entry hazard strong team you can still score OHKOs with his impressive unboosted attack stat. Rock Polish lets you run adamant.

Breeding IS easy as fuck. I spent about half an hour today breeding noibats and ended up with a timid one with 31/31/x/31/x/31 IV spread.

Dragonite has slightly higher attack, but thanks to Strong Jaw, the elemental fangs end up having a higher base power and status chance than the elemental punches.

On the downside, Dragonite's ability is amazing, he has a higher speed, and resists mach punch and doesn't take SE from bullet punch. Although, dragonite doesn't really have an answer to fairies while Tyrantrum does in Poison Fang.

Overall, I can't say he does a better job of coverage than Dragonite. But would a DD set be? Or a choice band? Dragonite is straight up a stronger pokemon with a better base stat total.

And being locked into something lets your opponent plan out his next 2-3 moves without fear of you doing anything other than attack. With stuff like aegislash and kings shield or whatever in the format, that is something you cant afford to risk anymore.

This has literally the same effect as someone switching into a physical wall with rock resistance against your HH tyrant. Quit getting mad at theorycrafters because you decide your method is superior when in reality they have incredibly similar pros / cons.

Still no rock heads out of the 7 or so I've hatched, but they're inheriting the father's perfect attack and sp. def most of the time, and they're all still adamant for whatever reason
