So I got Y late (because paychecks) and I'm developing my team.
I got the grass starter (not terribly fond of it, hoping it'll grow on me), A Squirtle, and the little fire-bird.
I want my last three pokemon to be the strongest types in the game, but I'm not fully sure what those are anyomore with Fairy added. I'm fond of Dragon, Poison, and Steel types, but I want to go for power this time.
Any advice on the strongest types?

My Team was Blazekin, Geninja, Venosaur, Tyrantrum, Aegislash, and Noivern.

Venosaur is a tank if it's mega-evolved, Aegislash is a really good steel/ghost.

The whole team was pretty well balanced

I just got Squirtle, so I think I have a ways to go before I reach them...?

Is Fairy a good type? I was looking at maybe catching a Raltz or that flower-fairy-thing.

Fairy type is god.
It looks all cutesy and shit but it will kick ass behind that uguu kawaii mask.

Also, your little fire bird will grow to be really strong.

I used Delphox, Venusaur, Gyarados, Lucario, Aurorus, and Butterfree. Butterfree is seriously a boss, through Elite 4 annihilating everything with Bug Buzz and Psychic

About the Venosaur, if one was to get him, is there a water-type in the game better than Blastoise?

If you like Dragon and Poison then Skrelp is right up your street.

As for Steel types, Honedge is a safe bet. Ghost is one of the strongest types this gen so not a bad choice at all.

As for your remaining slot, it's up to you, but Helioptile is not a bad idea.

I saw a few posts talking about Skrelp having horrid stats, but I still liked him.

I'm looking forward to Honedge. I like dual steel types. I creamed the Elite 4 with Empoleon and Skuntank, still two of my favorite pokemon in-game.

Skrelp's fine, he's just a bit slow. It's worth investing in HP either way, then the rest into his very respectable Special Attack.

I like him because I rarely ever get to use Poison types I actually like.

Honedge is fucking great all round, really good pokemon to have. Swords Dance + Shadow Sneak carries him through the game, and then you have Sacred Sword, Iron Head and King's Shield to abuse too. In the mean time he also gets False Swipe which is fantastic, plus he got me through Wobuffet Hell and Arena Trap Valley.
