i usually go the the heavier/faster shaking grass and continue to go for that one. if i don't hear it or if i hear it and unsure which grass it is. i restart the radar.

also to note, never step into the area above your character because that grass area could have shaken and you might not be able to see it.

also chaining is easier at night inside the game due to the fact that it is easier to see the grass moving because the color of the grass changes noticeably.

Here is my stock:

All of the ditto's are japanese and I am basically trying to breed a timid shiny disable gastly with as many 31 IV's as possible, I have the destiny knot on a ditto and an everstone on the gastly male to pass down timid nature.

How can I improve my method? I really don't care about attack, I just need to breed into that gastly male 31 special defense.

That's why I multiplied the odds together. They're independent events. Each time, the odds of not getting a shiny is 99.98%. However, the more eggs you hatch the odds that none of them is shiny decreases.

I feel you're not understanding what I'm saying.

If I flip a coin, the odds of landing on heads is always 1/2. If I flip 2 coins, the odds of at least one coin being heads increases, because there are now 3 cases with heads but 4 cases total.

Similarly, the odds of obtaining a shiny through one egg never increases. However, as I hatch more eggs, the odds that at least one is shiny will increase.

It's not really more likely that any individual one will be shiny.
Here's the possible combinations with 2 without Masuda:
(8191/8192) * (8191/8192) = no shinies
(8191/8192) * (1/8192) = shiny found second
(1/8192) * (8191/8192) = shiny found first
(1/8192) * (1/8192) = two shinies

The total probability of these add up to 100%. The more you add, the lower the total probability of not getting a shiny. However, each individual instance still has a 1/8192 chance, the measurements are simply for large amounts of eggs.

i havent chained in the grassy area as of yet because moltres keeps breaking my chains.

there was this one guy who chained a shiny evee after a chain of 5 in the flowers.

talk about luck. my chain ususally breaks in 4 due to lack of patches.

also chain at night. the animation of the shaking is a lot easier to see because of the color change.

There's only ever been two shinies I encountered in my life. (Disregarding scripted ones) First was a shiny Houndoom I got in a trade in the original Gold/Silver. Guy didn't even realize what a shiny was and I wasn't exactly keen to tell him. The second was a Starly within the first ten minutes of playing Platinum. Funny enough, I was on the phone with a friend and we were discussing the probability of seeing one right off the bat. Lo and behold, it came. Still on my team to this day, and he's always been a great ally.

If I hatch two eggs, the odds of both being not-shiny is (1364/1365)^2, or about 99.85%. Is this wrong?

Need some shiny breeding advice here.

I am currently using:
Male Japanese Ninetales 31 SpA 31 SpD Timid Drought [Superior] (Everstone)
Female English Ninetales 31 Speed Timid Drought [Superior] (Power Anklet)

I plan on periodically replacing the female if additional 31 IVs show up including Speed.
Breeding for Timid.
Once I see 3 or 4 31 IVs on the female, or speed with Outstanding potential, am I better off using Destiny Knot on the female or keeping Anklet on to nearly guarantee speed with Timid?

Also, what are the actual odds of Drought being passed this gen?

You're not understanding what the math dude's saying.

He's not saying that the next egg has an increased chance.

Statistically speaking, if you hatch one egg, there's less of a chance that that one egg (100% of the eggs) will be shiny.
However, if you hatch 10000000000 eggs, his math (which is correct) shows that it's more likely that at least one egg of those (0.000000000001% of the eggs) will be shiny. In fact, statistically, 1/1365, or around 7326007 eggs should be shiny.

You're right that the eggs you've hatched don't determine the next egg's shininess. We're speaking strictly in statistics.

The female will pass on the ball, so I GUESS that if you breed it with a male, whatever ball the Ditto is in will be passed on instead.

I recommend Luxury, Poke', or Premier, something that won't look terrible on any Pokemon. Avoid using Great Ball at all costs.

But it sounds tedious for shinies because you'd want to keep placing non-shinies in PC and grabbing new eggs in a loop.
