How come generation 6 has barely any viable competitive pokemon even when the smaller ratio is taken into account? I thought power creep was a thing or was gen 5's so large that it made this gen seem weak? Or are the megas the extent of the power creep?

Because it doesn't have many Pokemon at all. But a significant portion of them are in fact viable. Unique typings can do a lot even when stats are lacking.

How is Megaken better than normal Blaziken? It's the speed boost that matters, not the marginal stat increase.

The stat boost really isn't that marginal. The attack boost gives like 23% more damage is not quite the missing Life Orb, but add the Speed boost and the minor Def/Sp. Def boosts and at least at first glance it seems a viable trade-off unless the Mega slot is needed for a different mega.

Well, not everything can have uber-tier stats. Yet they can still be good, see: Breloom.

As for which ones I've had success with: Malamar, Trevenant, and yes Carbink too. All in Trick Room.

There are more than that, like Talonflame and Chandelure. And I've been doing well without any of them, just with a regular TR team.

It's easy to identify the people here who haven't played at all. Megas are irrelevant.

Well my point was GF did a really bad job with stat distros and abilities this gen. And most people aren't used to the new shit, when the dust settles Gen6 Pokes won't be seen in OU, I guarantee it. They just have nothing going on for them.

That's still irrelevant because requiring everybody to run a Trick Room team to survive is just as bad as centralizing. Anti-meta teams have no bearing on the creation of the meta, they just exist to counter a specific number of things in gimmicky ways. They're fun, sure, but they don't mean jack shit when it comes to judging how good something is, so unless you're going to go make a normal team before judging, you can get right the fuck out of this discussion.

Trick Room is actually great. Because the meta has such a massive emphasis on speed completely switching around attack order is a massive advantage and lets the Trick Room team use mons that usually wouldn't be touched because of their low speed. In addition instead of having 252 Speed EVs on every mon you can put them in HP or a defense stat instead to make them bulkier.

If Game Freak just improved the distribution of Trick Room then you would see a LOT more teams using it.

Why can't it have Crabhammer as an egg move? It works perfectly with its abilities and types and makes some sense from a biology standpoint. Crabhammer even got buffed this gen to 100 BP, but no, no 100 BP stab physical contact with increased crit chance for Barbaracle.

Yeah, I found out when I grabbed a Crawdaunt for egg move experiments, they buffed it to make it more satisfying than waterfall or aqua tail as a signature move, feel free to check it ingame.
