Is there any point to the Battle Box, or does it simply not work?

I'm never getting prompted to go to my Battle Box when challenged over PSS.

Wouldn't this have been the most OBVIOUS type of battle to use the Battle Box in?

Am I completely missing something? Everytime I accept a PSS battle, I only can choose from my current party.
