He works really well in online battling, especially when I surprise fighting types with my type coverage or taking down tanks with Toxic.
It all depends on what moveset you want him for

it definitely mentions partners in the description. from the description it looks like its protect for your whole side but only for attacking moves and it doesnt block status

My only gripe with Special Protean is while Greninja is more special oriented, Physical Protean has access to some unique types with immunities.

It protects your whole team against non-status attacks. It's pretty damn powerful in triples.

his type changes to match what ever move he uses, this means 2 things.
1. he gets STAB on every attack he does
2. you can change his type on the fly to be pretty much anything and use that to cover weaknesses and shit
