How about:

-A bug/steel type, with great stats, an ability that increases its attack, and priority
-A bug/fire type, with great stats and access to one of the best boosting moves in the game
-A bug/steel legendary, with a pointless signature move but still great stats
-A bug/steel type, with access to loads of entry hazards, rapid spin, support moves, good defences and sturdy.
-A bug/fighting type, with good offensive stats, and access to moxie or guts.

Any of these would be a great addition.

To the OP, I really think we should just increase all the old Bug-types' stats. GameFreak's shown they're somewhat willing to do it, since they apparently buffed some old mons' stats (Alakazam, for example, got +5 SpDef).

I REALLY want Vespiquen to be good, you guys. She's my favorite Bug-Type.

Give them actual stats and fix entry hazards. Punishing excessive switching is one thing, but losing a quarter or half health is excessive. I wish there was a way to make exit hazards make sense. That seems like a better mechanic to me.

I think last gen was good for bugs. I'm going to stand by Leavanny as a chlorophyll sweeper, and Hone Claws Durant can work in OU. Vivillon was close to being great. If only it had a little more speed and didn't take 4x SR damage. Still, if Vivs can get in under good conditions, it can easily secure itself a dance and start to become an actual threat. Maybe webs will help, but I see that being more of a problem for the way I prefer to play than anything.

Make Flying and Bug less redundant defensively, for one. It won't actually make Butterfree and Vespiquen good, but I'd feel a bit better if the 4827 billion Bug/Flying types GF comes up with were less catastrophically weak against anything halfway relevant.

It's not about "prediction", it's about what it can and can't do. Shedinja realistically can't do anything. It has low stats across the board, is very limited in options, and Wonder Guard means fuckall because the thing is still very easy to kill. It is bad.
