As of now, OP is right. Fairy would be better off if it resisted Dragon, and wasn't immune. Still, with it's array of other qualities (namely it's effectiveness on Fighting) it's still perfect viable as both a defensive and offensive type.

It's meant as a check to dragons, and an offensive pivot/wallbreaker. Having an insanely strong attacking prowess, priority, and perfect coverage gives it use in that regard.
