Oh this post again.
Lumiose actually has a map.
I don't get your menu complaint since I can maneuver them flawlessly.
3D model encounter is for special battles, much like how every non-3rd version have non-animated sprites for generic fights and animated ones for special battles.

This is the first time I'm posting it

About the menus, I didn't say they were hard to maneuver, but they could have been simplified a lot more to achieve the same goal. When making juice, it requires you to mix two berries, but they have you going through the menus twice instead of just having a little slick drag'n'drop interface or something.
