Yup. The sending out effect isn't much different from a normal pokeball now.

I was so fucking depressed when I caught an Honedge in one, only to send it out and notice the lack of...everything for it.

On the one hand, this is good because it means you can catch any Pokemon that fit the Timer Ball's looks in it.

This is bad because I don't think anyone didn't catch Dialga in a Timer Ball and it ruins the effect of that.

Luxury is the best since it actually has use beyond aesthetics and you can buy them... but Cherish is the coolest imo

I do like to match pokeballs to colour schemes though... not sure if I made the right decision catching my shiny shuckle in a dive ball instead of a quick ball though

Very easy to see why it's "a thing". It's a nice-looking Pokeball for a unique and rare Pokemon. I especially like the red flash effect that accompanies the release animation. Goes well with the shiny sparkle.
