Ok, something is really fishy here.
I am convinced, they did something to the rate shinies appear.

Yesterday I found a shiny sandile, and just now, within 10 minutes, I found shiny petilil and clefairy.
Either that or I am insanely lucky at the moment

70 hours so far, haven't seen a shiny, have been trying to chain for the past 2 days, no luck.

Take a course in statistics in your local community college and then you'll understand that your subjective experience does note have any meaning in the bigger picture.

I feel the same way. Within two days, I've found a shiny Xatu AND a shiny Woobat, after many years of never finding a random encounter shiny.

Yeh, last time I ever found a shiny was in emerald a few years back, not a single one in either gen 4 or 5 and I found one yesterday and one today. A spiritomb and this bad boy right here

From what I am seeing, it all depends on how well you've bonded with your pokemon. THe better the bond, the more likely you can encounter a shiny.
I spent all day after my first gym playing and bonding with my pokemon. Before I fought the second gym, I got a shiny.

Guys, get into chaining. Never heard of that thing before, never got any shiny before, then I read a tutorial, 3 hours later got a Shiny Ditto.

Chaining is awful in this game.

Tiny, irregular grass patches

What? Got it perfect on my third try following very specific rules, I have failed the first two tries for mistakes I acknowledge.

Basically:
- Always go for the same shaking intensity
- Always go for a shaking patch that's at least 4 patches away from you
- If you go on a patch that's on the edge of the grass field, you MUST reuse your Poke Radar instead of going to the next patch directly
- Never use roller skates
- (obviously) always use Super Repels
