I can see it getting useful in doubles paired with an Discharge abuser. It has a nice type to go with Rotom-W for example. Theoretically even with Rotom in normal form, to abuse Discharge + Boomburst.

So, It's useless, right?
It looks cool, so I'd love to use it on a team, but

In a simulator that may be useful, but over wi-fi and VGC, it's too undependable.

Berries aren't even used that often.
And still, the only decent physical moves it gets are crunch theif and wild charge.

The best set I can come up with is:

It really lacks the movepool to make it OU material. GF should have made a Dark variant of Superpower or maybe even Close Combat, then it could be great. But so far, it has sub-par stats and a slow setup with very limited PP on Superpower. The only thing it has going for it are Intimidates, which seem to become rarer now that every noob prefers Moxie. Also, Recover, why the fuck does this thing not get Recover yet? I'm still hoping for the breeding moves in this.[/spoiler[

The king of UU. It will probably be too unpopular to join OU, regardless of its actual strength (OU is still a circlejerk to a large part). But good players will make it work in many different settings and teams. Great potential.

One thing that surprises me is that nobody is talking about the new items all that much.

Like nobody has said anything about Weakness Policy, but it's absolutely massive for mons like, say, Metagross, who can tank a hit and also suffer from four moveslot syndrome.

it's also the kind of thing whose very presence in the meta makes for some interesting mindgames, because it means that trying to knock out a Choiced sweeper with a move that doesn't OHKO 100% of the time is like offering it a free SD and making it that much more terrifying.

Anyway, Weakness Policy is a held item where if the holder is hit with a SE move, its Atk and SpAtk increase two stages.

Positively dangerous on bulky mons with four moveslot syndrome, really makes all tanky attackers dangerous as shit

Also runs a fucking mindgame on everyone since risking a 2HKO means possibly inviting a free setup.

Yeah, I like it. I've seen it put to use on Aegislash, which I find a prime candidate for it: Shield Form can easily take a SE attack, while Blade Form just rapes everything at +2 attack. Heck, a smart Weakness Policy set could even go mixed here.

I'd also like to test how this works on Thick Fat, for example. I suppose Mamoswine would get a boost when hit by a Fire attack even though it does not actually do double the damage. So that could be interesting...

Why. You have STAB Shadow Claw, which does the same exact thing to the same exact Pokemon (save Normals, which you shouldn't see if they aren't named Blissey/Chansey). Also, those EVs a shit. Brave @ 252 HP and Atk is the way to go on that set, with the 4-6 dumped in Special Defense. Ideally, you'll actually want to use Shadow Sneak, Swords Dance, King's Shield, and either Iron Head or Sacred Sword for your last moveslot, depending on the rest of your team and whether or not you're willing to sacrifice perfect coverage in Ghost/Fighting for the extra power of STAB Iron Head.

Shoulda gone full HP/Attack.

All on a brave nature, this is the preferred build. Use Kings Shield for defensive position, Swords Dance while taking a hit, then shadow sneak/iron head/sacred sword to OHKO the opposing pokemon.

It's especially interesting because two stages doubles attack, which matters because both Choice and Life Orb don't boost by that much, meaning that switching into an SE is effectively better than packing a Choice or LO.

So CBand/Specs sweepers can forego the choice items for wider coverage, and tanky mons can forego the LO recoil damage and last longer, while having even BETTER OHKO odds than previously.

Guys, I need a physical wall for my team, any suggestions? I was thinking that Tyranitar or MegaAggron might be pretty good choices, good def and they have enough Attack to put a hit on anything that comes up. Also most people think it only protects for contact moves, but in reality it's every single physical attack (or sp atk that hits phys def).
Same thing for Tough claws, it raises every physical move, not only moves that make contact.

Okay, I need to ask what sounds like a stupid question.
Why do people use Choice Scarf/Specs? Sure, it gives you more power, but then you're locked into that move and your opponent could just switch into something that resists that move. Is there something I'm missing with this?

There are moves you cannot easily switch into, especially if your team was weakened before. Also, I can predict the switch and choose a move that kills your switch-in. It works because in Pokémon, a well-timed move grants a KO immediately.
Though I must say, I'm not a big fan either and if I use choice items, I mostly combine them with Trick. That's a great one, though.

If you can sweep easily off the move, the boost works.

Consider Scizor, who gets technician on bullet punch for a priority 90BP with STAB. That's dangerous, but most of what you're gonna do with Scizor will involve spamming that move, so sticking Choice Band on it will give you an even FURTHER boost to that stat.

Also, for instance, you have mons like Boomburst Exploud, who only really have one viable move, but with a 50% damage boost it's absolutely monstrous.

Especially in a metagame based on a lot of switching, being locked isn't too risky; if you're sure they're gonna switch, YOU switch, and the choicing is broken anyway.

I am preparing to run Croagunk with gunk shot over poison jab as it is now buffed to be an 85% accuracy hydro pump. The thing is I don't think croagunk can learn it through egg moves, only through tutor in gen V. Is there really no way still to make him learn it?

Of course, with Infiltrator skirting subs, there are now walling counters as well, which is nice. But I feel like this gen ISN'T gonna be the Sweepfest Gen V was. In addition to the fun new walls, we've got these toys like Weakness Policy and Assault Vest which seem like they're GameFreak finally showing some love to tanks.

Seriously, tanky fighting has always been one of the least viable strategies (outside bulky water) but GF is finally doing a bit to discourage the "outspeed and OHKO, with a dash of toxic hazard roar walling" flavor of past metas.

Which Pokemon really needs since it encourages a lot more emphasis on type matchups and phys/spec matchups than the sweeper meta, which is largely about who can squeeze the most boosts out of a match.

I have my hopes that tanky fighting comes back in a way that counters the increased distribution of Speed Boost and Sand Rush and Swift Swim. Seriously, if the metagame was overcentralized almost entirely around who was consistently fastest, that should have been a sign that it was too fast to KO, IMO.

Well, it's a pure Steel type with 70/230 physical bulk. And Filter. If it dies to anything, it's going to have to be a Special attack... except 80 base Sp. Def isn't exactly shit, especially when you have no reason not to max it out.
No recovery blows, but it should be able to survive any Physical attack that isn't, say, SF CB Darmanitan's Flare Blitz in the Sun for a few turns.

i fought some friends with somewhat meh pokemon but when someone used a mega lucario close combat it barely took off a 4th of his health
this is with 252 hp 252 spdef 4 def spread and a sassy nature

But if you flipped the EVs and put them all in Def/SpDef, Sheild Aegis could SD to +6 without blinking, and with a Life Orb and +6 attack in Sword Mode his attack is absolutely terrifying, while he's still easily bulky enough to take whatever hits get thrown at him.

Manectric could be cool setting up Electric Terrain if Terrain moves ever become viable. Otherwise it's a pretty nice user of Volt Switch, but it's gonna miss a Choice item, or even Life Orb. Funny, i trained defenses too, i seem to enjoy it some.

Literally it's 252 in Defense, 252 in attack, 6 in HP with the same moveset (i prefer iron head for fairy types) with a Relaxed nature and his IVs being highest in HP and Attack.

This allows me to switch in and tank while i build up attack with swords dance and then smash with iron head after you've used King's shield.

So Mega Hydreigon needs to happen, and it needs to either have an ability that plays off three heads (Something like Mega Khan's) or it just needs fucking Mega Launcher. Because Dark and Dragon Pulse are already excellent moves for him. Then Aura Sphere can be a third because Focus Blast sucks cock, and the fourth move can be coverage.

And then give it legs and a huge-ass tail.

I was thinking of switching Focus Blast on my Sub/Disable Gengar for Dazzling Gleam. It still has perfect neutral coverage, but;
Pros: Deals with Dragons, Fighting (though not Mega Blaziken), will hit

Yea I've thought of using it with a defensive Dragonite in rain. I want to try both out though. Salamence seems more offensive and you also get the double Intimidate which is cool. Both seem great to use with Mawile since they cover each other's weaknesses pretty much perfectly.

What do you guys think the dominant strategy will be for OU in Gen VI? In Gen V, weather dominated OU. The only viable teams in Gen V OU were all weather based, so that was kinda annoying having limited choices if you wanted to have success.

If you have room for Scoliopede and Mega Absol in the team add them. Scoliopede gets Speed Boost and buffed attack to 100 base and Mega Absol gets magic bounce and buffed offenses as well.

Super Sized Gourgeist and Small Gourgeist will still play similar roles, but Super Sized is considerably slower and has much higher attack. You'll know which size you have because Small is around Hoppip size and Super Size is like, Pangoro.

Trevenant is a bulky physical attacker that can live forever thanks to Rest + Natural Cure and Horn Leech. It's far more offensive than Gourgeist's defensiveness.

Everyone started carrying a flying move (example-aerial ace) last gen, when Fighting became so dominate.

It's not that bad, but Grass really isn't a defensive type.

ive been seeing two sets, one run by non japs and one run by japs
jap one is a stall with leech seed, will-o-wisp, horn leech and rest with a chesto berry (sun optional, but encouraged)

american one is bulky sweeper with shadow claw, horn leech/wood hammer and whatever they want coverage on

Doesn't cover much that Shadow Claw doesn't outside of dark types, who are hit pretty hard by Horn Leech anyway. I believe it has PuP if you want to try that.

I just lost online to a guy who's Mega Blaziken Sky Uppercut three times in a row on my Aegislash then when I finally switched it out of Shield Forme and stopped spamming King's Shield he used Flare Blitz and then used the speed boosts to rip through my team. I have no idea if he's a genius or retarded.

Because Aegishield is ghost type it does the "Sky Uppercut had no effect" instead of dropping two attack levels when I used kings shield. Again, I can't tell if it's genius or insanity.

I've actually been breeding a lot of Pumpkaboos myself. Right now I have two parents that are 31/31/x/x/31/31 and x/31/31/x/31/31 (aiming for 31/31/31/x/31/31). I've been thinking of running something like

enough speed to outpace max speed JollyTar, rest in special bulk as its physically bulky enough already. SubSeed is obvious, Wisp to wear stuff down even more and hurt mon like the aformentioned Tar.

Filler slot is where I'm undecided, though I'm thinking I could go for a gimmicky Phantom Force set. With ghosts boost meaning it's no longer resisted by steel types, its ability to hit through protect, and the fact that I disappear for a turn while using it, I think Wisp/Seed/Force damage could easily pile up.

Tyrantrum has base 75 speed so it could work if it were Brave with 0 IVs in speed I guess. Even then, things like Ferrothorn would "outspeed" it, not that it could do much to them in the first place.

Klefki gets lovely Prankster dual screens, Thunder Wave/Toxic, and one of the best defensive typings in the game. He's also a keychain.

Pokémon caught in a friend safari will always have two random perfect IVs.

Babby Pokémon (Riolu, Azurill etc) caught in the wild will always have three random perfect IVs.

If you know a guy with a friend safari that has something cool that you want (or Ditto) then maxing out IVs really does not take very long.

Shadow Ball to stop Aegislash from setting up or any other ghost/dark
