Don't give up. Seems like forever, but it only took like 5 boxes to get my shiny Eevee. It is now a wonderfully green Jolteon. Tentacool and Camerupt pictures in the imgur folder. :D

It's day eleven of my long and grueling journey of searching for that shiny Ralts. It's come to my attention that there is a possibility of it hatching as a male, and despite the numerous technological advances in the Kalos region, sex changes manage to elude the fine professors and nurses. I continue my search for the black dressed Mega Gardevoir that I pictured in my dreams, but for the time being I've got a multitude of boxes of these annoying psychic nuisances that dare call themselves pokemon. Okay, I've been testing Hatching O-Powers level 1 and 2 with Gastly eggs and Flame Body.

With only FB, it took me 2355 steps around Prism Tower (with 24 steps on the way to the starting position).

With level 1 Hatching, it took me about 1923 steps to complete (with 34 on the way to the starting position, since I forgot to turn it on and walked an extra 10 steps -- oops). This means level 1 is a 1.25x boost to steps (unless there's some extra math I have to do involving Flame Body, but I doubt it).

With level 2 Hatching, it took me about 1577 steps to complete (with 24 or 25 on the way to the starting position, I'm not sure which exactly). This means level 2 is a 1.5x boost to steps (again, unless there's some stupid Flame Body shit).

I don't have level 3. So unless someone's willing to send me it for a test, that's as much as I can do until I get it.

I think now I'll test without Flame Body to make sure it's all correct.

tl;dr: hatching level 1 gives 1.25x boost, level 2 gives 1.5x boost, level 3 gives ??? boost. I think.

Would you guys mind if I threw down some quick polls here for you monks to see about how long different methods of finding shinies are taking on average? What I'm thinking of asking:

>How long between hatched shinies?
>How long to chain up to a shiny?
With 5-hour intervals for the answers. Obviously no real numbers are going to come out of this but it might be of some use before we see the actual formulas.

What I'm saying is that date for this type of research will be highly variable. e.g. bob gets shiny ralts on fifteenth egg, susan gets shiny ralts after 85 boxes. Even with chaining, you will still see varied answers.
