Is it best not to save, and just restart?
Or does that somehow decrease the odds of getting a shiny?
Because I can just imagine the pain of releasing each and every one.

The contents of eggs are determined the moment they are created, when you get them from the daycare person. Saving afterward and soft resetting does not change natures, stats, abilities, shininess, etc.

This is how it's been in all generations up until 6, I think it's safe to assume it hasn't changed.

I see, I see. You might want to read Bulbapedia's article for Shiny Pokemon, it may contain the information you're looking for.

I don't think resetting decreases the chances of encountering a shiny Pokemon by egg, I think the probability stays the same.

I'd say keep hatching and releasing the undesirables as usual.

It's faster to just reset, it doesn't matter how many eggs you hatch, your chance of getting a shiny is the exact same no matter what, the game rolls the dice when the egg is created, it doesn't matter how many eggs came before it, it's still the same odds.
