Opinions on X & Y?

I'm debating whether or not I should get it. I've always loved pokemon, but I don't want to get it if it's just the same thing again. My experiences with the franchise have played out like this.

Gen 1
>Loved it

Gen 2
>Loved it even more

Gen 3
>felt short and shallow. Nothing drastically new. No day/night cycles, only 1 region, didn't even have a lot of my favorite pokemon from previous games, etc.

Gen 4
>just felt like I was playing gen 3 again

Gen 5
>see above

I'm on the verge of breaking down and buying a 2ds (fuck 3d) and x/y tomorrow. Thoughts?
