I actually once tried to sat down and chart pokemon species by egg groups and breeding systems and shit, see if there were any overlaps that would help build any kind of Taxonomy that would make sense. I couldn't figure out shit. It made sense at first, fairy overlapped with field a lot, field with monster, monster with dragon, etc, but why the fuck are archen and archeops in the water 3 group, a group populated by aquatic invertebrates? Why is the gardevoir line amorphous? how do single cases of specific overlaps even happen?

I came to the conclusion that the ONLY logical answer is that all pokemon are technically the same species, and egg groups are just cases of mutual attraction between specific strains.
