Just because it gets Moody doesn't make it some undefeatable god that must be banned, it just means you might get lucky and get all the right stat boosts in order to win... sometimes. It's a game of complete chance, just like evasion (in fact, Moody can boost your evasion too) thus it's banned.

Moody gives a random stat change every turn.

The essential problem here, of course, is that this includes evasiveness raises

So evasiveness goes up once, twice, suddenly you're wrecking teams and your stats are slowly climbing

Though if you're doing that, why use Bibarel? Just stick double-team/minimize on everything and play evasiveness abuse. There's no evasion clause on WiFi either, and it's much easier to abuse than Moody.

It can increase evasion. It doesn't have to. Speed boost is more broken because a good attacking poke can just set up a few protects and outspeed 99% of the game and hit like a train.

Yes, there are still dice rolls going on for damage calcs, but then time was people played nohax and would disable crits, small-chance status effects, etc.

There's still accuracy but plenty of players even avoid using moves with reduced accuracy for just this reason (despite them being mathematically advantageous if you calculate power vs odds of hitting).

If were going competitively, then ban protect because thats a dice roll that you wont be damaged on that turn. Ban any move that attacks more than once. Ban evasion all together because thats a dice roll too.

Why not just take out anything that effects stats at all and just play with 4 tackles with level 1 pidgeys with the same nature and IVs.

Honestly, Moody isn't banned just because of luck, otherwise Acupressure would be banned; it's banned because it is insanely overpowered too. Like Speed Boost Blaziken, after a few boosts just about the only way to stop it, even among most ubers teams, is wish a sash user and Roar, counter etc. Since Moody also includes evasion, even those don't work.

Officially, Smogon doesn't vote to ban based on whether stuff is luck-based; only if it overcentralises the meta or otherwise breaks the game do they ban.

Unofficially, a shitton of fucks on there think that they're voting on anti-luck, not realising that they're playing a luck-based game in the first place, and that anti-luck is a stupid stance to take.

The former approach leads to perfectly reasonable conclusions, like Sleep Clause, so Darkrai can't Dark Void everything. The latter approach leads to mass retardation, and a failure to understand the concept of risk/reward. Confusing the two stances leads to stupid arguments like the ones in this thread, where the pro-Smogon side thinks the anti-Smogon side supports infini-Dark-Void, and the anti-Smogon side thinks the pro-Smogon side supports banning paralysis moves because 'muh hax'.

The decent thing to do would be to stop arguing and work on exploiting these 'banned' tactics to piss off the Megablaziken spammers on Wifi.

If you need a mon with an ability that makes it always hit then it would be over centralized and you would have to always carry a counter to it, and THAT'S why it's banned.

Smogon doesn't just ban shit if it seems overpowered. If you have to build your team specifically around countering this one thing otherwise you'd lose THEN it gets banned.

Shit I don't know why people hate luck so much. This is supposed to be POKEMON. Monsters battling, each battle having a different outcome. I know some shit like double team is gay but if there isn't luck then it's going to feel like some kind of board game rather than actual monsters fighting. Sometimes you get crits and lucky shit in real life. Plenty of sports games were are and could have gone either way, that's the fun of the game. It's not interesting if it's 100% strategy.

Not all of smogons rules I agree with, but its making pokemon a more skillful game overall. Its just like how MLG imposes rules to balance out more luck based elements of games in order to keep it based on ones skills. You don't HAVE to play by those rules at all, but a standard form of rules helps a metagame exsist.
