Yes, in a way. No in others. It's certainly going to change the direction of the franchise should they decide to keep them. If they do, we're going to be having less new Pokémon and new evolutions introduced each generation in favour of more (likely version exclusive) Mega Pokémon. To collectors, yeah, this is a nightmare and sucks for the franchise as a whole. But to those who felt we were becoming oversaturated with new Pokémon and the series should slow down to focus on other features, I suppose it bodes well.
As for the Metagame, yeah, it's currently fucked up the ass by them.

I like them a lot because the strong 'mons that get them usually are better with an actual hold item.
It also lets shitty ones become genuinely useful, such as Mawile, Banette and Pinsir.

No, its a silly gimmick, not even needed to beat the game at a normal pace. Not used outside the Lucario fight, not even once.

People complaining about the lack of new Pokemon should really know by now that it's because of megas. I'd rather have new mons than megas ever being introduced, and they will only be more in the future, hampering development of new Pokemon.

I don't even think they're necessary, it's not like every Pokemon that need them to stand a chance in battle actually get one. It's been given mostly to already high-powered mons.

And of course fucking Charizard and Mewtwo.

Not really, but I sure wish instead of a Mega evolution, Mawile just got a normal second evolution. And some are kinda redundant, such as Scizor and Garchomp, like what's the point?

It's questionable if some/most WILL become viable though even with the changes.
Mawile in particular is still rather fragile thanks to its low HP and it has shit speed that doesn't get boosted at all. But if it lives without getting burned and gets a hit off, yea it's gonna hurt.

They don't just take something away because a few people don't like it. If anything they'll just stop making megas altogether but keep the ones that exist. They really don't give a fuck about competitive.

GameFREAK removes many small gameplay features, but never touches the Pokemon and their forms. They've only JUST started to buff, and only buff, weaker Pokemon.

The only thing that's different is that I don't play online at all anymore. Almost immediately it's MEGABLAZIKEN MEGABLAZIKEN. I know there are counters for it, but I used to be able to do alright with my ingame team, but megas are just too much, and everybody uses them.

If you like aegislash he can be pretty fun for punishing the shit out of blaziken.

King's shield clips his attack, and being faster than aegislash is actually a disadvantage.

I'm personally enjoying the overuse of mega blaziken right now because it makes running a single counter so damn fun. Most of the teams I bump into online are wrecked by it.

Meh, I wish the bird didn't turn so ugly. Fletchling and Fletchcinder has a certain smoothness in their design and Talonflame completely loses it along with meh stats.

There's dozen other counters to the random MegaBlaziken nerds that challenge random people anyway, Vivillion being one.

How to fix mega evolutions

1. Introduce a held item that "locks" a pokemon in their mega form at the cost of not being able to hold items while in mega.
2. Focus on giving weaker pokemon mega evolutions mostly those with less than 500 base stat.
3. Get rid of the only one mega per team limit.
4. Have a text displayed at the beginning of trainer battles that said's something like "The trainers mega bracelet is glowing" showing that there are in fact pokemon either capable of going mega or already mega in their team.

Megas are mostly fairly well-balanced by the nature of the limits on them making which pokemon on a team having them predictable and the opportunity cost of other items (especially if you carry multiple mega stones to have mega evo options).

A lot of them aren't even much better than their base version plus life orb anyway.

There are a couple notable exceptions, but nothing that won't be banned or countered, I'd daresay.

It hasn't yet neither online or in Battle Maison. I would almost wager that the accuracy increase is more than 30% or it's not added multiplicative. 0 missed Sleep Powders and Hurricanes so far.

Either way, it's not safe to go Sleep Powder over Powder against something like Mega Blaziken as you'll only be faster than it on the first turn, unless they are running a speed nature (doubtful due to Speed Boost). Not to mention that Sleep is nerfed as fuck with it breaking often at next turn.

Well even so, expecting to miss with them is like expecting opponents Blaze Kick/Hi-Jump Kick/Stone Edge/Rock Slide to miss.

Powder twice against enemy MegaBlaziken (they rarely know that Powder is a priority move) and it's at 50% HP and they know they have to change tactic and the only choice they have, which they best have, is a Rock move which your berry SHOULD save you from and you get them with Hurricane. I would say you can possibly 1shot it with Hurricane on turn1 if they don't Protect but I'm not sure how strong it hits Mega Blaziken.

Who being up stealth rocks, find something else.
There are ways around sr, having him as a lead, or even having a goddamned rapid spinner on your team.
On top of that, why would you send out a Charizard with sr on the field, against a poke that he's slower than?
I for one take measures to protect my
Pokemon against sr, I don't just blindly send them out.

Actually, according to the damage calc on showdown, a 110BP Hurricane from a Timid Vivillion with 252 Sp.A EV (any IV works) 1 Shots any non-Sp.D/HP boosted Mega Blaziken and again, unless they went full Speed EV + Speed Nature, Vivillion will be faster on turn 1.

I have literally only come up against someone with roar/whirlwind twice in my
Battling career.
Additionally, that's completely luck based, unless Charizard is your second to last poke.
But still, the meta game is as much about prediction as it is rolling with the punches.

It's a much harder condition to account for than most and cripples charizard substantially by putting his health into that relevantly weak range healthwise.

He can be good, but generally you either need to remove the rocks (can be tricky/costly) or lead with him so it's not an issue (doable but predictable)

Charizard is a solid OU with megas but he's got his risks, that's all I was saying.
