You know, I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't get this joke anymore.

I watched Pokemon up until a little after Sapphire, and he seemed young in Kanto and Johto.

I turned on the TV this weekend to watch the movie and X and Y previews, and I feel like Ash looks like a 16 year old now.

He looks way taller, his face looks more defined, his voice is deeper, he seems way more mature

...Am I missing something here?

Yeah, but that's noncanon since it didn't see use.

The gist of it was that Pokemon had the same issue as an anime that Heroes had as a TV series; it was more or less originally intended that there would be self-contained story arcs with new characters each season, but bigwigs said character recognition was too important so Ash has to perpetually travel to the new regions as a 10-year old.

I hated this. In Sinnoh Ash seemed really mature, had a turoring role for Dawn, and actually got a team of very solid Pokemon who actually fucking EVOLVED.

I know, you're right in that respect. My original comment said 'if they actually aged.' Because they don't, no pairings make sense since they are all ten. In pairing fanfics, however, the characters are older and therefore should (but don't) follow the obvious canon timeline.

Origin was shit, dude. All the events were "I gone to..." without properly showing the event, excluding the Tower part. And most battles were reduced to "I fought with X" and the only battles we had weren't even decently animated.

Only good thing on the entire thing was the Chansey moment.

Tai was all about courage and had to learn the hard way not to push his 'mon too hard to become powerful.
Goku was just a loveable Mary-Sue who loved to fight.

Matt loved his brother to the point of smothering and turned into an emo piece of shit until he learned the value of friendship and his bond with the other characters. Matt was cool but he wasn't a cunt.
Vegeta was a badass that cared for no-one until he surpasses Goku in Battle of Gods after Bulma was assaulted, which I guess you could draw similarities to Matt, my point being they're not the same characters.
