Remember when Pokemon was all about the fun?
I wish Gamefreak would remove IVs, chaining and breeding next gen. This way only EVs and moves would make a difference online.

Fuck spending weeks to get a team with 6x31IVs, bred moves and perfect natures.

Gen 2 destroyed the franchise

IVs and EVs have been a part of the games in one form or another since the beginning, Chaining is entirely optional and only in a few games, breeding is optional too and has been a staple of the series since gen 2.

EV's? There's a way to get like 50 per battle
IV's? Breeding them in is hilariously easy with the many ways to pass em down and catch mons with naturally great IV's.

A good team can be made in a day or so.

I sort of agree with the OP. Natures and EVs only would mean we could all spend less time riding back and forwards on our bikes and spend more time actually battling.

I've been breeding for a perfect Abra all day using all the new tricks and I still can't get one with more than 5 perfect IVs even though both the mother and the father have 5 perfect IVs each and every stat covered between them. It's still a massive waste of time even with the simplifications. You could keep breeding in the game as a way of ensuring the natures and abilities you want, and as a way of passing moves around without the need to devote so much time to IVs.

Gamefreak already made IVs easy to get this gen. Most Pokemon only need 5 perfect IVs, which is extremely easy to get using Destiny Knot.

I would hardly call holding left and right on the d-pad for dozens of hours to luck out with the RNG and get a Pokemon with hidden numbers that drastically impact battles "gameplay"

It's a pointless grind that just acts as an entry barrier. The game would be magnitudes better if IVs were removed entirely. No one should be forced to endure a random grind in order to be competitive. Even if it's easier this gen, it's still a random grind. It's the antithesis of competitiveness.

After 15 years I can actually battle my friends regardless of the country they live in, bring my favorite Pokemon to their full potential, and have a pseudo-bond with them in that I can pet/feed them after they destroy my friends' teams

It isn't fun, it isn't skillful. Getting lucky after hours and hours of breeding and scoring random numbers and having a terminal case of autism that allows you to do monotonous tasks COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO BATTLING is not skill. There logically isn't any way you can argue that it is. They are random magic numbers that hinder competitiveness.

To train a pokemon is one thing.
To breed boxes of pokemon to try to be lucky enough to get perfect IV, is an entirely different thing.
The game tries to make you care about the monster, and with IV all you do is toss away "imperfect spawns".
