Boy, if the next one goes back to sprites it'll be tough to get used to. And everything seems so...pixilated and messy.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it, OP. GF went ahead and made 3D models for every pokemon already, all the upcoming gens will only add more 3D models and fine tune the old ones.

That said I haven't gone back to playing one of the older games yet to see.
