It won't work in open water. You need to consecutively fish without breaking the chain.

YOU DO NOT NEED SUCTION CUPS. it might make it easier, i have no clue since i am not using it and have not failed to chain.

you can run away. all that matters is the number of times you actually reel them in.

moving breaks your chain.

when you catch a shiny, your chain is reset.

rod does not matter. it only dictates what pokemon you can catch.

hugging rocks seems to decrease i failed to get a bite. not proven.

Wow I feel really conflicted. On the one hand, I can get some of my favorite Pokemon as shinies easily. On the other hand getting a shiny of some of my favorite Pokemon is about as easy as catching a wild one with the nature you want.
I really don't know how to feel about this. I guess this lets me not have to waste as much time? I mean, playing the game in the first place is a pretty big time waste, but this should shorten the wasteception.

You do not need the PokeRader. Literally, all you have to do is fish repeatedly and run from battles, without doing anything else, until you find a shiny. Suction Cups helps with keeping the chain, and apparently it helps to do it near rocks as well but it isn't required.

The ONLY thing that matters is you catch successively. The rocks themselves don't matter either, rocks just increase the chance of getting bites, which is redundant with sticky hold or suction cups.
