Logically from a modern standpoint gen I for its lack of polish and bugginess, but as an experience for me at the time I played each game I was most disappointed with Diamond.

From a playing standpoint, Gen I. All of it was pretty bad, albeit technically impressive. The game was built off of coding errors, basically.

From a standpoint of someone who realizes how technically impressive Gen I was, holy shit, DP was terrible. It was a balance patch, and it showed.

Soul silver. It's literally the only Pokemon game that I ever actually stopped to take a nap on when I got it on the first day of release. I mean I got heart gold, but heart gold is better because Ho-oh.

Diamond and Pearl were no doubt the worst. Slow load times and just being overall boring killed the game. Platinum fixed everything, but D/P were god-awful.

Worded it poorly, battling was very slow because of juxtaposed load times before the battle began and after the battle was over.

Yes, but we also got some damn good pokemon, one of the best rivals (fighting-wise, other than that Flapjack is shit), the Gym Bros (The fire E4 & Volkner), and a genuinely good Evil Team.

If you ask me, Gen 1 was the biggest pile of crap...

Probably HGSS. As someone devoid of nostalgia since I never played GSC, I found it to be the worst. Having two regions was ballsy, but everything going back down to starter levels was awful for trying to progress through it, so I ended up only having the patience for Johto. The only thing I really enjoyed was having pokemon following behind me.

The worst mainline would be Diamond or pearl, I won't choose one specifically because they're practically the same really. They just felt slow and very underwhelming, Platinum was fucking gold, but those two were just awfully bland.

Worst main game I'd say is probably Ruby or Sapphire. There were a lot of really good things about it, such as natures, abilities, moves, and a lot of cool new pokemon, but the "story" is comically absurd, the region feels much more like "vacation" than "adventure," a bunch of the new pokemon are really gimmicky, I don't like the designs of the legendaries, and I honestly can't remember a single character past that steel-type champion.

I haven't really played any of the auxiliary games, though.

Yeah, this thread has made me realize that I can't remember Pearl at all either. Scraping my brain as to what the story was or even my starter and I've got nothing.

What do you think is wrong with it?

As for my opinions, the only spinoff games I've played are the Mystery Dungeon Red, Blue, Time, and Sky games and I have no gripe against them. They are pretty awesome, actually.
The worst mainline games were DP, no contest there.

Dash was pretty awful, and looking at it now, GSC were pretty bad too. I'm not really sure which of those three was the worst though. Sure being able to go to Kanto was pretty cool but that doesn't make up for the shit level scaling, the Pokemon that were available for catching pre-E4, and that small and mostly forgettable region. It was just... fields. The only town I can actually remember is the own with the burnt tower and Goldenrod.

Mystery Dungeon, hands down. As a kid all I wanted was to play as a pokemon, then lo and behold, Mystery Dungeon granted my wish. It's also pretty difficult, although in bullshit ways sometimes to be honest. Never stopped me from coming back, though.

Why the hell do people always think of shit like Burmy and Bidoof when mentioning Gen 4 designs, but never Toxicroak, Drapion, Drifblim, Roserade, Weavile, Mamoswine and so on? To be honest, I actually love Lickilicky, Rhyperior, Magmortar and Electivire, because they don't look as ugly as everyone says, and because they have clever designs. Everyone's just throwing shit at them for some reason (maybe because it's an upgrade of their precious old mons), without looking deeper into the design.
