Reminder to people complaining about shinies being less rare in gen VI: First of all, the overall rate seems to have went up. Then there is an increased chance in friend safaris. You can chain again. You can also chain while fishing. Clearly GameFreak wanted to make shinies a little bit easier to come by. Is that bad? No, come December people will transfer over there genned and rngd 391423453 shinies anyhow.

The data of a shiny and a non shiny are identical except for a few personality value numbers which decide if it's shiny or not. The end, if you can change those numbers to indicate shiny its the same pokemon with legit IV, with a legit found at, with a legit moveset and ability, completely unchanged with a shiny look.

Reporting back with Sweet Scent findings because I ran out of PP on everything I had to do damage with. 108 chain, in the end. Stayed in one spot, in the grass in Route 15. Hordes consisted of Murkrow, Foonguss and occasionally Klefki. KO'd them all every time. No shinies. Now, I'm not saying it's NOT a legit thing, because obviously, shinies can be tricky things and some people are luckier than others. What I AM saying is I think any shiny encounter boost from this is probably more to do with taking on 500 pokemon in a relatively short period of time, and just having more chances of running into one. Just my two cents, though.
